Queens University of Charlotte is Hiring an Access Coordinator, Student Accessibility Services Near Charlotte, NC

Job Description

Summary:  The Access Coordinator for Student Accessibility Services assists in coordinating ADA accommodations for Queens students. This is a full-time position within the Center for Student Success reporting to the Director of Student Accessibility Services.

This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include

  • Assists students with understanding and navigating the accommodation process; responds to student inquiries, conducts student meetings and outreach.
  • Processes documentation related to student accommodation requests; maintains and updates files for current students; keeps thorough, accurate, and confidential student records.
  • Coordinates accommodations for temporary disabilities including working with faculty, Residence Life, and the Registrar’s Office.
  • Provides support to students (including student-athletes) who have experienced injuries and other medical events (e.g., concussions and surgical procedures). 
  • Advises students on the use of assistive technologies such as screen readers and dictation software.
  • Assists with implementation and organization of accommodations including alternative format materials (i.e. Braille, digital texts) and assistive technology devices like smart pens. 
  • Assists with the administration of accommodated testing through SAS, including management of student workers. 
  • Works collaboratively with the other members of the Center for Student Success and makes referrals to other campus support services as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with other campus departments to educate students, faculty, and staff about the accommodations process and promote an inclusive campus environment for all students. 
  • Remains knowledgeable of best practices regarding disability services and accommodation in higher education. 
  • Appropriately handles, tracks, and stores sensitive & confidential materials according to established guidelines by understanding the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc. 

Non-Essential Duties

  • Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and University needs.

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Experience working with diverse student populations, such as students receiving accommodations, international students, ethnic or racial minority students, financially fragile students, or first-generation college students.
  • Experience with disability accommodation and knowledge of ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act preferred.
  • Proficiency with web-based applications, Microsoft Office (particularly spreadsheet, database, and word processing), and student information systems with a strong orientation to detail. Working knowledge of common assistive technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish rapport with the diversity of our students, faculty, and staff. 
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills, including proven expertise in follow-up and follow-through to completion within established time frames. 
  • A high level of personal integrity and professionalism. 
  • Strong work ethic and initiative. 
  • Ability to problem solve and research solutions, as needed. 
  • Ability to quickly learn and assimilate into new systems and cultures. 
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands. 
  • Strong collaboration skills across the department and campus to promote a positive work environment. 
  • Bachelor's degree and 2-5 years of experience working in student services in education or equivalent combination of education and significant work experience.
  • Experience working with post-secondary students in a higher education setting strongly preferred.
