JOB SUMMARY

Performs a range of manual labor tasks in support of the County's maintenance and development activities. Performs general facility maintenance work, general grounds maintenance and routine building maintenance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides cordial, responsive and accurate customer service;

Performs manual labor and uses various appliances, hand tools and motorized and electrical tools such as floor buffers, scrubbers and vacuums and trash and recycling equipment.

Performs routine turf management and landscape functions. Operates hand motorized and electrical tools such as string trimmers, push mowers and riding mowers. Maintains planting beds, plants, waters and mulches/trims trees and shrubs and mows grass.

Operates recycling and refuse truck. Collects, consolidates and transports recyclables and reuse materials from various countywide locations. Operates forklift, bobcat, loaders and baling equipment

Performs routine custodial duties and minor repairs to offices, restrooms and all other rooms in County buildings and facilities (this may include minor interior and exterior repairs).

Replaces supplies from stock and requests replenishment of stock.

Empties trash and moves furniture.

Monitors County-owned and operated buildings and grounds; collects, removes, and disposes of litter and debris.

Shovels snow and spreads salt or other abrasives on walkways.

Learns and applies safe maintenance practices.

Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Raises and lowers flags.

Performs routine landscape functions; water lawns, operates weed eaters, mowers.

Maintains planting beds, clearing and pruning operations, plants and mulches trees and shrubs.

Cleans and sharpens mowers.

Performs routine preventative maintenance and repairs to equipment and vehicles.

Mixes and applies herbicides, pesticides and other chemicals used to maintain properties.

Applies fertilizer, lime and seed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Maintenance Worker II

A High School Diploma or a GED; and one year or more years of related experience or training.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a Class C Motor Vehicle Operator’s License issued by the Maryland MVA (or equivalent), or the ability to obtain such a license within thirty days after employment to this position. Additional licenses may be required by the employing department depending upon specific work assignment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Reasonable accommodations may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Regularly works inside and in outside weather conditions. On occasion, work is performed in potentially adverse weather conditions. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration and risk of infection or electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, however, on occasion may be loud.
