Mission:
Quantum’s Experiment Support Team (QUEST) provides the Department of Defense with consistent, automated, and scalable data collection and management services for our Nation’s Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence (AAI) research and development projects. QUEST provides rich curated data at the speed of mission as its contribution to inventing new ways of teaming Humans and Machines for improved outcomes. QUEST needs your assistance as an Instrumentation Engineer to achieve these goals.
Responsibilities:
Work with all members of QUEST to implement robust data collection systems to support both test and experimentation events and exercises. Understand and assist with data acquisition systems (hardware and software), developing, and supporting prototype embedded systems, developing, and supporting sensors/sensing networks, maintaining, and repairing complex data collection instrumentation, maintaining field-deployed sensor networks on operational infrastructure, and embedded in natural systems, and creating cloud-based webapps that are associated with the visualization of data collected. Develop concepts, modify, improve, and finalize preliminary designs or prototypes sensors / instrumentation to enhance data collection capabilities and techniques. Design printed circuit boards, manage the process of external-party fabrication, perform in-house assembly, and program microcontrollers with embedded software. Actively participate in the development and modification of instrumentation plans for advanced and real-time experiments and test events. Design cloud-hosted database systems and web-based applications that visualize data collected from experimentation and test events to facilitate decision making. Conduct performance and reliability testing on the electrical and/or mechanical properties of assemblies, components, networks, or equipment. Develop, analyze, and maintain processes, products and/or equipment, including diagnostics; may write application-specific software for automated test equipment. Assist with identification, justification of purchasing necessary materials and equipment in appropriate amounts for data collection for both test and experimentation events and exercises. Monitor, adjust, test, calibrate, maintain, and repair instruments, components or fixtures including programmable controls, and test equipment. Troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventative maintenance, and repairs.
- Minimum of six years of demonstrated experience in electronics and embedded systems.
- Experience with mechanical and electrical principles as they relate to data collection sensors and instrumentation equipment.
- Experience with popular data acquisition and control systems software (e.g., Labview)
- Experience in embedded system design and maintenance including programming embedded microcontrollers/microprocessors in high-level programming languages (e.g., C)
- Experience in printed circuit board design and readying sensing systems for field use
- Extensive experience operating test equipment, including soldering equipment, multi-meters, and oscilloscopes, with a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in the calibration, maintenance, and repair of scientific equipment systems, including competency in problem-solving, analysis, decision-making, learning and teamwork.
- Ability to stay well-organized and negotiate deadlines where appropriate to avoid over-committing to projects or missing due dates for deliverables.
- Ability to analyze and present data using Excel or other data processing programs.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree / Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering with electrical engineering experience or Electrical Engineer with extensive mechanical engineering experience with 3 to 5 years involvement designing, developing, testing, calibrating, of data collection sensors & instrumentation, for various data collection applications, environments, and scenarios.
Must be a US Citizen.
Security Clearance: Must have Secret with the ability to qualify and obtain a Top Secret/SCI.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to travel internationally and work in austere environments.
- Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs. equipment containers un-assisted.
