Job Summary:
As a PICC Line Nurse, you will play a crucial role in patient care by assessing and performing an overall evaluation of patients. Your responsibilities will include the correct placement of the PICC line and ensuring its proper insertion. This role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a dedication to patient education and support.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work independently, communicating effectively with patients, family, and healthcare providers.
- Complete required paperwork and provide patient education on PICC insertion and post-insertion care.
- Participate in performance improvement activities, sharing valuable insights with facility staff.
- Assess patient medical history, laboratory values, and vascular access status to determine eligibility for PICC placement.
- Ensure physician orders and informed consent are obtained before PICC placement.
- Perform PICC placement using aseptic techniques and demonstrate critical thinking and assessment skills related to vascular access devices.
- Maintain clinical competency by performing a minimum of six PICC insertions per year.
- Document PICC insertion and confirmation of placement, adhering to company policies.
- Instruct facility nurses/staff on patient PICC care and maintenance.
- Provide clinical support during meetings and facility rounds.
- Ensure the fiscal viability of the PICC program by accurately entering charges, equipment usage, and time management.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate Degree in Nursing.
- Current RN (Registered Nursing) license.
- PICC Certification.
- Current BLS certification.
- COVID-19 vaccination required (proof to be submitted in the candidate packet).
- Good knowledge base for caring for central venous catheters.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of OR, IR, or PICC insertion experience.
Physical Demands:
The job requires frequent standing, handling, talking, and hearing. Occasional walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary. The associate may lift and/or move up to 15 pounds on occasion. Specific vision abilities, including close vision and depth perception, are required.
Additional Information:
- The candidate will utilize their own vehicle and receive mileage reimbursement.
- Patient population: Adults only in Nursing Homes and Acute Care Hospitals.
- Job type: Permanent - Per Diem.
