FUNCTION:

The Apprenticeship Coordinator is responsible for assisting regional companies and businesses in meeting their talent needs specific to Registered Apprenticeships (RA). The primary functions of this role are to continue the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies to support RA expansion in the service area by providing a broad range of services including recruitment, enrollment, orientation, and coaching of apprentices. Additionally, the coordinator is responsible for working with potential employers, community partners, and training providers to develop new apprenticeship programs.

DUTIES:

  • Foster and establish sustainable RA programs in the service area.
  • Assist employers and employer-led collaboratives from varying sectors in expanding RA programs by starting new programs and working together to create a pipeline of skilled workers; working closely with employers referred by the Business Services Team; and assisting in coordination and/or becoming involved in a wrap-around approach to address multiple employment and training needs for RA participants and sponsors.
  • Coordinate with manager and Communications Team to identify, develop and disseminate tools and strategies that increase access, entry, and retention in RA for underrepresented populations.
  • Act as an intermediary between job seekers and employers by providing job-coaching, mentoring and conflict-resolution, as needed, and with the assistance of local service center Career Coaches.
  • Manage a caseload:

a. Complete WIOA eligibility documentation; b. Monitor program progress; c. Track On-the-Job Training (OJT) and Related Technical Instruction (RTI) hours; d. Coordinate testing as needed; e. Process support requests; and f. Determine case closure.

  • Promote access to and use of all available workforce development resources to support RA expansion.
  • Participate in Apprenticeship Learning Network (ALN) modules.
  • Develop/strengthen partnerships with school counselors to increase communication about all apprenticeships, including both traditional and non-traditional occupations.
  • Meet with high school seniors and/or parents to increase awareness of opportunities and benefits of USDOL Registered Apprenticeship programs.
  • Capture and manage all types of data for reporting, auditing, and monitoring purposes.
  • Provide community outreach including public presentations.
  • Promote the system through participation in career fairs, exhibits, tours, community projects, and job fairs at public, social and business gatherings.
  • Consistently provide a good example of appearance, work ethic and customer service to customers served.
  • Responsible for relating and interacting with the public and co-workers in a positive way that results in mutual cooperation and respect.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Degree in Business or related field preferred. Experience in lieu of degree in the area of human resources, marketing, workforce development/staffing or employee training is acceptable.

EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience recruiting, staffing and/or providing talent to businesses and familiar with businesses. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, contractors, board members and the general public with persons of all social, economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Write professional level documents, reports, and business correspondence and enter records in a timely and accurate manner. Must possess strong customer/staff focused communication, public relations and interpersonal skills and show discretion when handling confidential information. Must be organized and able to handle multiple tasks and projects. Must be willing and motivated to learn and work independently with limited supervision and guidance. Have knowledge of workforce development programs, Microsoft products and internet.
