Quad City Animal Welfare Center is Hiring an Animal Caretaker Near Milan, IL

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Caretaker to join our team. As an Animal Caretaker, you will be responsible for providing excellent care and support to a variety of animals. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who have a passion for animals and want to make a positive impact in their lives.

Responsibilities:

-Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages and runs as often as is necessary to ensure no cages or kennels are soiled and odors are not apparent. Perform general cleaning in other areas of the clinic to control the spread of disease. Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.

- Provide care for animals housed at the clinic. Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical and mental condition. Report signs of illness, injury, disease, discontent and/or unusual activity to management and/or veterinarians.

-Apply knowledge of normal food and liquid requirements of animals. As required, provide special food as requested by the QCAWC Veterinarian.

- Launder and dry towels and blankets.

-Record information such as feeding schedules, appearance, behavior of animals that are housed at the clinic.

-Responsible for stocking supplies. Including but not limited to food, bowls, bedding, leashes, and cleaning supplies.

- Ensure that cages and animals are properly numbered and identified.

- Obtain stool and urine samples as assigned

- Discharge and admit animals at the request of management, veterinarians and veterinary assistants. Ensure that animals are clean and fresh smelling prior to discharge.

- Patrol grounds daily, picking up any trash and stool material. Empty trash.

- Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the QCAWC and it’s mission.

Skills:

- Knowledge of proper methods of animal restraint

-Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor

- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

-Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments.

- Knowledge of basic veterinary care

- Ability to handle dogs of various sizes and temperaments

- Familiarity with kennel operations and best practices in animal care

Pay: $14.50 - $15.50 per hour
