Quad Cities Interfaith (QCI) is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization of congregations and community groups whose purpose is to build local leadership and address community issues in the Quad Cities region of Illinois and Iowa. QCI strives to improve the quality of life in our region by developing community leadership in congregations and other institutions, so as to bring our values into public dialogue, and work together to speak with a strong, unified voice in the decisions that affect our lives.

Quad Cities Interfaith is searching for a talented and hard-working individual to fill the role of Community Organizer. Successful candidates for this position must be a values-driven, self-motivated, resourceful team player. The Organizer will work throughout the Quad Cities Area with focused work on Housing and Immigration work. This position is set to begin on August 1st, 2024.

Principal Responsibilities:

Work with an established group of community and faith-based leaders to build relationships, develop and implement a community education program, recruit new and diverse grassroots, develop leadership skills, and organize issue-oriented campaigns related to Housing and Immigration. Must be proactive in the areas of campaign development, fundraising, and leadership development.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience as a community or labor organizer.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including various faith traditions, immigrants, and different abilities is strongly desired.
  • Understanding of racial and social systemic systems and barriers and a solid commitment to breaking down those systems.
  • Experience with recruiting and training new leaders.
  • Experience working with elected officials.
  • Strong attention to detail and well-organized.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Strong team player.
  • Able to exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions, and to handle difficult or confrontational situations in a calm, consistent, and equitable manner.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends;
  • Written and verbal fluency in Spanish and English is preferred but not required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in related areas: Community Studies, Social Work, Political Science, or Theology.
  • Excellent communication skills: oral, written and interpersonal.
  • Must be a licensed driver with reliable transportation and ability to meet organization’s minimum auto insurance requirements;
  • Experience in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and virtual meeting tools (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.) as well as social media platforms for organizing (Facebook, Twitter, Familiarity with using databases is desirable.

COMPENSATION

The salary is based on experience. Each position also includes opportunities to be trained and coached in the art of organizing within the Gamaliel Network.
