PWC Careers is Hiring a P/P OPERATIONS MANAGER Near Fayetteville, NC

SUMMARYOF RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for managing the operations and laboratory sections in the 260-mw dual fuel combined cycle power plant; along with monitoring a 1-mw solar array; and dispatching 2-mw battery storage system during peak demand hours in the Electric Systems Division. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, analyzing operational data to determine trends/problem areas, calculating various values, developing plant procedures, administering plant clearance tagging procedures, maintenance request program, conducting equipment test and calculations, investigating plant incidents, and determining heat rate projections, completes local state and federal reports as well as environmental reports per requirements, and ensures proper inventory of chemicals and supplies to support plant operations. General direction is exercised over subordinate personnel involved in the operations of the Power Plant. Operating within the framework of policies established by the Director of Generation Resources, latitude in independent judgement is allowed in determining operating methods. On-call availability and extended hours are required. Performs related work as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of safety rules/regulations/ procedures; thorough knowledge of power plant principles and practices relevant to the operations and laboratory functions of the power plant; thorough knowledge of power plant systems/equipment/electrical systems/motor control centers; thorough knowledge of power boiler chemistry; thorough knowledge of emergency and clearance tagging agreements; thorough knowledge of supervisory concepts and practices; demonstrated ability to operate the control center equipment; ability to operate a variety of laboratory equipment; ability to read/interpret flow/logic/electrical drawings; ability to perform accurate algebraic/mathematical calculation; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to research, plan, coordinate, schedule, project, and prioritize work; ability to prepare and maintain reports and records; ability to manage/ supervise people and multiple projects; ability to maintain effective working relationships with customers, the general public, all levels of employees, officials, and contractors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (either) 

(A) Graduation from an accredited four (4) year university/college with a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field and a minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience in power plant operations which includes two (2) years in a supervisory capacity; OR

(B) Graduation from a two (2) year accredited university/college or technical institute with a degree/certification in engineering, electrical or electronic technology or related field and a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively as defined in (A) above; OR

(C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and a minimum of nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience as defined in (A) and (B) above; OR

(D) An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as defined in (A), (B), and (C) above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.

SAFETY HAZARDS: Exposure to Power Plant hazards.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: As required in the Public Works Commission’s Safety Manual.
