Pueblo of San Felipe is Hiring a Prevention Specialist Near Algodones, NM

Job Summary: Incumbent is a Peer who is also certified in Project Venture. Prevention Specialist is a Keres speaking San Felipe tribal member with previous experience in care management and will work to empower members of the San Felipe community to cultivate healthy behaviors; encourage and support coordinated, systemic approaches to the prevention of suicide and other behavioral health challenges.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist Project Venture Coordinator in the forming of youth and family voice that will help implement mental health policy initiatives and prevention, intervention services for school-aged children in the San Felipe community.
  • Implement Project Venture program In-school, Afterschool and on weekends for youth and families.
  • Recruit develop and facilitate programming for Project Venture, KYLI, Health Champions, Play works and the In-school programs for the six schools San Felipe Students attend K-12 grades.
  • Work directly with SOC program partners that include AWARE, KEVA, ZSI, and other projects, and support ongoing SOC initiatives.
  • Facilitate culturally competent youth directed activities consistent with achieving the goals of the Project Venture Program.
  • Advocate for tribal youth at school and at home when deemed necessary to promote positive self-care and resiliency.
  • Develop partnerships with schools, teachers and administration to coordinate intervention supports for identified high risk youth.
  • Follow up with referral networks and youth at risk to insure that services are being provided.
  • Maintain a regular dialogue of all enrolled youth, adults and partners.
  • Assist with direct community/school outreach communications campaigns to educate tribal youth about the need for mental health services and the natural supports that exist at all venues.
  • Assist in creating partnerships between tribal leaders, tribal programs, Native American organizations, other supportive organizations, and state policy makers to strengthen System of Care goals.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with promotion of program services, community and national events such as Children’s Mental Health Awareness, Red Ribbon Campaign, Be My Friend Not my Bully Campaign and Suicide Awareness month.
  • Assist the Evaluation Team with the development and administration of assessment and evaluation tools.
  • Assist Project Evaluator in facilitating culturally competent discussions and administering evaluation tools appropriate for tribal youth, parents, elders, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with management of office functions; copying, facility reservations, equipment checkout, ordering supplies, managing communications and other relevant duties as assigned.

Education:

HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience/Basic Knowledge:

Job related experience engaging youth, adults, elders and tribal leaders in presentations and trainings.

Knowledge of San Felipe community its lifestyle and language.

Maintain training in accordance with grant service requirements.

Be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing youth, families, grant program managers and tribal leadership.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

Prefer a valid driver’s license. First-aid and CPR certification. Obtain a Peer Support Worker certification within one year of employment.

Physical Requirements:

Must have manual dexterity to enter and retrieve data from a computer. Ability to stand for long periods. Bends and stoops regularly.

Preferences:

San Felipe Tribal Member and Keres Speaking Preference.

Pay: $17.50 per hour
