Engineering Manager

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Engineering Manager is responsible for delivering excellence in guest service by developing relationships with guests, providing personalized service, anticipating and delivering guests’ needs. The Engineer Manager assists the Director of Engineer in maintaining the entire hotel facility, including the physical building structure, all mechanical, electric, HVAS and life safety systems as well as all related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs.

  • Maintain and ensure the overall cleanliness and safety of work area/assigned station and the establishment.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures.
  • Lead by example by inspiring your team to achieve and exceed PUBLIC targets to includes, but not limited to guest relations, team member relations, costs and efficiencies, and sales and revenue.
  • Lead and ensure appropriate and effective focus on activities of the department and team on a day to day basis.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of PUBLIC.
  • Join the Director of Engineering to conduct walk-throughs and visually assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure(s) of the hotel, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and any other related equipment.
  • Assist in assessing the needs for the building, develop and execute short and long-term strategies for successful property management for the hotel.
  • Perform general repair and maintenance, such as responding to guest calls as required, per the direction of the Director of Engineering.
  • Ensure that all safety systems are operable.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of all assigned tasks by verifying completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces, event rooms, ballrooms, venues, back of the house spaces, and grounds.
  • Accurately record and verify the completion of all repairs, replacement, and renovation projects to offices and team member work areas.
  • Report and conduct any preventive maintenance.
  • Support the Director of Engineering with recruitment, training, supervising, and holding department staff accountable.
  • Adhere to all PUBLIC purchasing policies and controls, including, but not limited to, all outside contractor bids, budgets, and schedules.
  • Report to the Director of Engineering if there are any structural, system, equipment, or budgetary concerns that should be addressed.
  • Access and input information into a computer and generate reports.
  • Ensure guest rooms, public areas, outdoor spaces and event spaces are immaculate, everything is in working order including climate, lighting, shades, etc. and rooms are set to specification.
  • Supervise necessary repairs and maintenance throughout the hotel.
  • Support the Director of Engineering in technical data, bidding, project work, alterations, and repairs for property.
  • Actively train in fire prevention, environmental health and safety, and engineering systems.
  • Attend all meetings regarding hotel operations, i.e., department, fire, safety, health and quality improvement.
  • Support the Director of Engineering in overseeing the department’s payroll and schedules.
  • Develop relationships with guests in order to provide personalized service.
  • Resolve guest complaints, handling all guest interactions with the highest level of hospitality and professionalism, accommodating special requests whenever possible.
  • Respond to guests’ requests in an accurate and timely manner, creating a positive outcome that will result in a memorable experience.
  • Proper handling of VIP’s, recognize repeat guests and protect their privacy and confidentiality.
  • Must be knowledgeable about PUBLIC i.e. location, cuisine, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge about surroundings, i.e. nearby entertainment, theaters, etc.
  • Ensure that PUBLIC reporting procedures are aligned with applicable SOP.
  • Ensure all hotel and restaurant policies, standards and local laws are followed.
  • Ensure sanitation fundamentals and Health Department requirements that are set forth by PUBLIC, local, state and federal regulations are in compliance.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labor relations
  • Undertake regular internal inspections to ensure PUBLIC’s assets are well maintained and protected.
  • Protect the name of the hotel and PUBLIC and ensure that no actions are taken within, or in the name of, the hotel that could bring PUBLIC into disrepute.
  • Take action in all matters related to the safety, security, satisfaction and well-being of team members, hotel guests and property. Respond swiftly and effectively in any hotel emergency or safety situations.
  • Ensure compliance with all hotel policies and procedures at all levels.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The team member frequently is required to stand, walk; bend and lift of up to (30) pounds; lift up to (50) pounds frequently; lift up to (100) pounds occasionally; use hands; and reach with hands and arms. The team member is often subject to noise; hazards including a variety of physical conditions; oils; machine operations; and atmospheric conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Three to five years’ experience in hotel engineering
  • Must possess, or have the ability and experience to acquire, a first-class operating engineer's license in boilers and air conditioning as required.
  • A comprehensive, working knowledge of the hospitality business
  • Computer literacy to include, but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with hospitality POS and/or PMS systems preferred
  • Ability to comprehend, read, write and speak English fluently
