Position Summary 

We are seeking a highly skilled and collaborative individual to join our team as a Business Data Architect. This role is pivotal in establishing a unified theory on how our data works and creating solutions for a more organized and accurate data landscape working within a startup-oriented environment while having the backing of a large company. The successful candidate will be pragmatic, systematic, and possess a strong understanding of data structures. This role will focus on tactical problem-solving, ensuring incremental wins and paving the way for a long-term vision. This role demands an individual who can navigate through unstructured data environments, ask questions effectively, and collaborate across teams to establish systematic solutions. The Data Architect will play a crucial role in shaping a more accurate and organized data landscape, achieving small wins along the way towards a larger vision. 

Essential Functions

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Unified Data Theory and Structure: 
    • Develop a unified theory on how data should be governed, documented, validated and leveraged for downstream usage. Focused initially on the Energy Supply Management side of the organization, with expectations to expand governance throughout Organization, utilizing the process and success implemented in Energy Supply Management
    • Understand data structures and work towards achieving purity in data. 
  • Data Governance and Flow: 
    • Create flow charts for data governance and data flow. 
    • Avoid overcomplication and be pragmatic in establishing data processes. 
    • Promote and execute scalable solutions, with the intent of advancing process through iterative successes to achieve a future ideal state. 
    • Build data quality checks, data anomaly detection, and optimize pipelines for ideal computer storage.
  • Collaborative Problem-Solving: 
    • Work collaboratively within a business group, not confined to IT. 
    • Be a consultant-type figure, guiding teams in problem-solving and data navigation. 
  • Strategic Assessment and Discovery: 
    • Assess existing data and structures through systematic discovery. 
    • Promote and provide solutions for enhanced data validity, timeliness, relevance, and downstream integration with differing objectives/needs or underlying data structure.
    • Ask questions to verify data accuracy and understand data sources.
  • Source Data Manipulation: 
    • Understand the importance of source data, its relevance to business needs and objectives. Promote and provide solutions, which may require extractions, transformation and loading of data from source systems, into an environment to be leveraged for various downstream users and their specific business uses. 
    • Create solutions for data problems, even if short-term, with an eye on long-term goals.
  • Relationship Building and Collaboration: 
    • Comfortably work with diverse teams, maintaining relationships while seeking data clarity. 
    • Collaborate with other stakeholders to understand their information needs.
  • Ownership and Vision: 
    • Take ownership of projects and contribute to the long-term vision. 
    • Be a hero in the organization by driving positive change in data practices.
  • Pragmatic and Tactical Approach:
    •  Be tactical in problem-solving. 
    • Develop short-term solutions with an eye on future enhancements. 
  • Systematic Implementation: 
    • Implement solutions systematically, focusing on step-by-step improvements. 
    • Append information as needed and promote changes effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan, and Grant PUD / IBEW Local 77 Code of Excellence. The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations.
  • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies & procedures. 
  • Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to: 
    • Following all safety policies and procedures. 
    • Alerting supervisors and coworkers of unsafe or hazardous working conditions 
    • Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor
    • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.

Education and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field. 
  • 10 years of experience with increasing responsibilities with at least 5 years management experience 

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field. 

License and Certification 

Required

  • a valid state driver's license with no restrictions.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of Federal and State Rules; Multi-dimensional data cube structures; Data warehousing approaches; Database administration. 
  • Preferred: Cursory understanding of bookkeeping and or accounting principles; Budgeting; Managing multiple personnel and projects; file and records management

Physical Requirements 

  • Position may be eligible for hybrid work arrangement: ☒Yes ☐No
  • Per Grant County PUD policy all employees are required to work at their designated headquarters at least two days per week. 
  • The majority of work is performed in a standard office setting. 
  • Typical shift of employees in this position: ☒8 hours ☐9 hours ☐10 hours ☐12 hours
