Job Description

State Budget Office is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the state budget, including development of the Governor’s Executive Budget recommendation, monitoring of the budget to ensure continued fiscal balance, and other budgetary analysis functions.
About this position:
Statewide Integrated Governmental Management Applications (SIGMA) is housed within State Budget Office and is the backbone for the State of Michigan government operations, supporting budget, financial management, procurement, timekeeping and labor cost allocation, inventory management, and grant/project accounting.
The role of SIGMA support staff is to support the daily operations of the system, working towards continuous improvement of SIGMA’s functionality, providing training and help desk resources to users.
As a SIGMA Financial Center of Excellence Accountant, you will:

  • Be a front-line reviewer of Production Work Requests to improve the system functionality through configuration changes or enhancements to the system.
  • Support SIGMA accounting related standardization for agency and central reference data format, forms, reports and processes.
  • Assist with a variety of functions, including Tier 2 support for agency identified issues, regression testing, defect recreation, TestSavvy script review and more!

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Office location is Lansing, MI, however, SIGMA Operations and Support currently offers a hybrid work option (combination of remote/office) which requires one day working on-site at the official workstation with the potential of up to four days remote work per week.
Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview. Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting is required.

Applicants that will earn a bachelor’s degree at the end of the current semester/school year may be considered with unofficial transcripts. Please note, the final offer of employment is made once official transcripts are received and approved.
Applicants who possess a degree from a foreign college or university must have their academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents unless the degree has been recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Go toevaluators for a list of accepted organizations that evaluate foreign credentials. Failure to provide this evaluation at the time of application may result in you being screened out of the process.

Accountant 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Accountant 10
One year of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant 9 or Auditor 9.

Accountant P11
Two years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports, including one year equivalent to an Accountant 10, Auditor 10, or Assistant Auditor General 10.

Alternate Education and Experience

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.

OR

Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.
