Public Citizen is Hiring a Campaign Coordinator Near Washington, DC

Public Citizen is a national, non-partisan, public interest group with more than 500,000 members and supporters. We hold the government and corporations accountable with campaigns and advocacy before Congress, administrative agencies, and the courts on issues including money in politics, open government, financial regulation, energy and the climate crisis, fair trade, consumer protection, access to justice, tax policy, workplace safety, drug and medical device safety, and healthcare. We are the reason why there are airbags in cars and there were no red M&Ms for a decade. And much more.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Public Citizen’s Climate Program is launching a campaign to pressure Ford Motor Company and other automakers to leverage their purchasing power to push the steel industry–a major industrial driver of climate change–toward a fossil-free future and to eliminate environmental, human rights, and worker harms caused by the industry. The ideal candidate is a sharp strategic thinker and tactician who has a track record of executing creative and effective corporate accountability campaigns, as well as experience organizing and building relationships with diverse stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute digital and in-person campaign strategies with the Auto Supply Chain Campaign Director, Campaigns Team staff, Communications and Digital Department staff, and coalition partners.
  • Organize grassroots activists, shareholders, coalition partners, or other stakeholders to advance campaign goals.
  • Identify opportunities to message or engage in actions around trade shows, sponsored events, etc., and plan and execute our activities.
  • Develop written materials such as talking points, blogs, reports, and corporate analyses.
  • Collaborate with groups and coalitions engaged in this work.
  • Serve as the spokesperson for the campaign.
  • Be resourceful and take initiative to accomplish campaign goals. . Recruit the partners, hold the meetings, work with the coalitions, organize the actions, create the materials.
  • Support other campaigns and projects as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3 years of relevant campaign experience. Corporate campaign experience a plus.
  • Commitment to centering diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion in campaign planning, strategies, tactics, and execution.
  • Demonstrated online and offline organizing experience, including social media and digital campaigns.
  • Strong commitment to campaigning to force auto manufacturers to hold the steel industry accountable for climate, environmental, and human rights harms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with public speaking experience.
  • Experience producing fact sheets, talking points, and analyses within a campaign setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond to short-term deadlines, balance multiple responsibilities, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with engaging labor unions a plus.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Competitive salary and benefit package. This is a grant-contingent, one-year position.Below is a list of some of our benefits (please note that some benefits have eligibility requirements).

Salary range: $74,367 to $88,365 based on experience and qualifications
