Function: Coordinates the reception, preparation, performance and reporting of metallurgical tests,
metallographic investigations, customer claims, and defect analysis from any of the PTCAIIiance
facilities. Assists in the investigation and analysis of vendor and production issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: receiving, preparation, examination, documentation and
interpretation of metallurgical samples.
Coordinates external laboratory testing as required.
Reviews the results of all examinations and / or tests and documents with appropriate reports.
Maintains consumable lab supplies in sufficient quantities and orders replacements when required.
Collects, prepares steel samples and updates vendor reports for supplier quality meetings.
Reviews customer / mill claims and evaluates samples from customer rejections.
Performs analysis of customer rejections for corrective action.
Evaluates production reject samples for possible reclassification and vendor claim processing.
Performs general day-to-day maintenance of lab equipment within their published capabilities.
Operates equipment to prepare metallographic lab samples including but not limited to band saws, belt
grinders, abrasive saws, surface grinding equipment and polishing equipment.
Performs applied research and development work as directed including gathering and analysis of data.
Records test data, applying statistical techniques.
Maintains and operates metallurgical microscope and digital photographic equipment to document,
annotate and analyze digital images.
The incumbent is expected to understand that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers. Duties and Responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the PTCA Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions as applicable to the job or function being performed.
Education and/or Experience:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and a
minimum of Eight (8) years of metallurgical laboratory experience or related experience and/or training.

written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized
situations.
Other Skills and Abilities: Must be computer literate and able to work with programs such as Word,
Excel, etc., and be able to learn and use HP programs such as E-Mail, established programs, etc.
