Prudhoe Bay, AK - Worley Careers is Hiring a Scaffold Lead (Construction) - Prudhoe Bay, AK Near Prudhoe Bay, AK

This is a temporary position with an expected duration of 60 to 90 days, with the potential to roll into another 90 day project. Anticipated start date is early to mid-June, 2024. The typical schedule is 84 hours per week (40 hours straight time and a minimum of 44 hours at time and a half). All meals and lodging are provided by Worley while the employee is on location. Transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided.

The position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule. Relocation assistance to Alaska is not provided.

Job Purpose:

The Scaffold Crew Lead will serve as the on-site single point of contact for a Scaffold work crew. The Lead will direct the work of crews based on job criteria including size of crew, work complexity, and any applicable state or federal requirements, in accordance with all safety, environmental and operational practices and policies and procedures. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Construct, erect, maintain and dismantle scaffold per OSHA, ADOSH, client, and Worley specifications.
  • Use multiple scaffold systems including construction grade lumber and patented pre-manufactured scaffold components.
  • Routinely perform safety and productivity observations as well as shop, field, vehicle, and scaffold component integrity inspections.
  • Responsible for complete execution of work orders for specific jobs.
  • Serve as on-site single point of contact for work crew.
  • Estimate and perform material take-offs needed for the performance of scaffold building.
  • Responsible for recording and reporting daily labor hours to Foreman or timekeeper.
  • Continually seek and implement safety & work process improvements.
  • Examine work and materials for compliance with job and safety specifications.
  • Lead work crews, providing daily supervision and direction in accordance with Team Leader expectations.
  • Mentors new crew members and verifies that mentoring process is followed, completed and documented.
  • Ensure all team members understand and follow procedures and assess skill level of team members; assist in skill development.
  • Attend various technical, developmental and safety training.
  • Demonstrate adherence to established company and client safety policies and procedures and accept accountability for safe work practices for yourself and crew, including proper hazard recognition and mitigation.
  • Demonstrate support for the company’s environmental management system.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of scaffolding techniques and procedures required, skill in erecting multi scaffold systems, with tube & clamp and Safeway scaffold systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of various fasteners, hardware, materials, and other commonly used scaffolding components.
  • Ability to work comfortably at heights.
  • Knowledge of crane and hand signals preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to come up with solutions to everyday scaffold issues.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, ADOSH and petrochemical industry scaffold specifications.
  • Knowledge of technical and safety policies, procedures, and standards applicable to the maintenance craft.
  • Ability to communicate clear direction to work crews, management, and client representatives.
  • Ability to operate vehicles (pickups, 12-foot flatbed F-550 trucks) and other equipment (man lifts, material handling and etc) in all seasons, adverse weather, and/or road conditions.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with fellow workers and a positional alternate.
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to established safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be willing and able to perform strenuous physical labor in harsh winter and hot environments

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Work is performed in a remote Arctic environment with limited medical resources. Candidate understands the site is approximately 840 miles (at least 4 hours by air ambulance) from surgical, specialist, and tertiary medical care, and where medical evacuation from this location may be significantly delayed due to weather conditions. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to: 

·Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, crawl, reach through low and high ranges, work overhead, and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear.

·Standing for prolonged periods of time.

·Driving for prolonged periods of time in the dark and inclement weather

·Ability to climb scaffold, ramps, stairs, equipment, portable ladders, and/or wellhouse/tank/facility fixed ladders of 20 feet or greater.

·Ability to wear and utilize fall protection within manufacturer specifications.

·Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist with two hands.

·Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder with two hands.

·Carry 50 lbs. for 15 feet with two hands.

·Push/pull 60 lbs. sled for 20 feet.

·Push/pull 90 lbs. cart for 20 feet.

Qualifications:

·Three (3) years’ experience as a competent scaffold builder.

·One (1) year experience in a crew-based scaffold or applicable leadership position.

·Petrochemical, oilfield, or arctic experience.

·Valid driver’s license including ability to be insured by Worley’s auto insurer.

·North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC). Worley can provide NSTC certification training if needed.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·Experience with other crafts, such as sheet metal, insulation, pipefitting, and valves.

·Alaska resident and capable of short notice mobilization.

·North Slope experience.
