KITCHEN MANAGER
Kitchen Managers are responsible for the preparation and cooking of food products accurately and with minimal waste. Duties of this position include learning and applying all IHOP-specialized galley terminology, plating, menu items and procedures according to company standards. IHOP Kitchen Managers are expected to set up equipment, verify stock, and maintain a clean and sanitary work area while maintaining company sanitation standards. This position requires you to stand for up to 8 hours during a shift, be able to lift at least and/or move up to 50 pounds, and have full mobility of hands and arms while performing repetitive tasks. IHOP Kitchen Managers are also required to perform duties necessary for restaurant operations as assigned by acting supervisor, following governmental and company policies. The above is not an all-inclusive job description.
SUMMARY:
A position filled with a craft Kitchen Manager with initiative and demonstrated leadership ability.
PURPOSE OF JOB:
To assist in directing Team Members in all phases of operation, to achieve high standards of food preparation and presentation, service to guests, general cleanliness and pleasant atmosphere in accordance with all Standard Operating Procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other assignments or duties as needed or which may be assigned by the managing MOD, Assistant Manager and/or General Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill and or/ability required. Team member must be able to communicate verbally in English to Team Members and guests and read English for menus, guest checks, notices, instructions, safety labels, etc.
Kitchen Manager must be able to interact with people in a friendly, courteous manner.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience or training is desired, but may not be required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and speak English well enough to communicate with staff, understand guest checks and instructions.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, percentages, decimals, discounts and cash counting.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense and to understand and carry out detailed and objective written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Kitchen Manager must be able to memorize food plating and handling procedures outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Kitchen Manager must be able to remain calm under pressure when dealing with staff or equipment problems.
Successfully complete IHOP training coursework as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the Kitchen Manager regularly is required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The Kitchen Manager regularly must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally may move up to 100 pounds.
