THE ROLE

The Head of Research and Science be responsible for overseeing research at the Saint John's Cancer Institute (SJCI) and the Disney Family Cancer Center (DFCC). The Head of Research and Science will lead efforts in integration of research across the SJCI and DFCC. Research will include basic research", translational research, clinical trials, outcomes research. The Head of Research and Science will oversee research administration to advance scientific wellness, genomics and personalized medicine programs and the translation of clinical research to clinical care.

The Head of Research and Science for Research and Science will: work closely with the Executive Director of the SJCI and DFCC and as appropriate, the Providence Chief Science Officer, to ensure alignment of research activities, budgets and administration across LA County; interface with clinical leadership to implement scientific wellness clinics and translate research to clinical care; identify clinical research priorities; and prioritize research resources. They will be expected to build on the strengths of the current research programs, set priorities for the future and support the translational and clinical research efforts that take advantage of the PSJH System.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Advances the creation within SJCI/DFCC of an integrated scientific wellness, clinical research and genomics program that is nationally recognized for breakthrough advances.

• Plays a key role in developing strategies, programs and partnerships in collaboration with the leaders of clinical and research programs across LA County to advance research and its impact on clinical care.

• Integrates budgets and research administration across SJCI/DFCC to ensure alignment with California South Division’s strategic priorities.

• Execute on and add NIH grants to the current portfolio of grants offered at SJCI/DFCC.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. in Biology, Physiology, or other related field

• Established PhD with 15 or more years of outstanding translational research and clinical experience as evidenced by significant publications in peer-reviewed literature, successful long-term peer-reviewed grant support

• Demonstrated leadership and management skills in research administration, prioritization, and program implementation within a large, complex organization

• Demonstrated history of successful collaboration and development of research and clinical partnerships

• Outstanding track record in successfully translating research to clinical care and of forging industry partnerships

• Experience in mentoring and enhancing the career development of entry," intermediate and senior level investigators.

Pay Range: $156.59 - $265.32
