Description

The Director Medical Education is responsible for graduate medical education (GME) program at Providence St. Mary Medical Center, providing leadership and direction to residency, fellowships and other GME related programs associated with Providence St. Mary Medical Center. This includes oversight of finances, contracts, ACGME requirements, and GME Residency Management Systems.

This leader provides direction for medical education operations. The Director manages and deploys resources across the functional areas for effective delivery of services including managing budgets and operating accounts, responding to inquiries regarding policy and procedure governing medical education, and administering the daily operations of the Medical Education Administration office. This leader contributes to the planning, support and execution of internal processes that result in compliance with the applicable accreditation and regulatory standards. This includes alignment with other hospital departments such as Medical Staff, Continuing Medical Education, Accreditation, Compliance, Human Resources, Employee Health, Security, and others as needed. This may also include Providence departments such as Provider Services, Legal, and IS.

The Director supports the operations of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, including agenda development, meeting coordination, maintenance of minutes and execution of action items.

The Director provides guidance, direction, and counsel regarding the policies and procedures governing medical education. This includes alignment with system priorities and policies. As needed, the Director serves as a liaison to committees and workgroups representing medical education for Providence St. Mary Medical Center as well as advises resident led groups such as the sub committees of GMEC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitors and implements changes in accreditation and regulatory requirements to assure system-wide compliance relative to the function of the accredited institution and training programs.
  • Directs the GME staff including recruitment, retention, skills development and training, evaluation and performance management.
  • Directs recruitment, orientation and retention of residents and fellows in collaboration with program leadership and executive leadership, develops and implements processes to ensure program health, accreditation and continuous improvement; develops and implements systems to measure and improve program.
  • Develops strategies and initiatives to enhance educational outcomes to meet the common program requirements and inspire continuous improvement in the Clinical Learning Environment.
  • Directs support staff for consistent processes for the successful maintenance of records for accreditation and site surveys.
  • Directs development of new accreditation applications in conjunction with Program Directors and departmental managers.
  • Develops and manages the Medical Education budgets for defined programs.
  • Directs effective functioning of the Graduate Medical Education Committee and sub committees.
  • Researches policy change proposals and aligns with organizational Standards and Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Conducts employee reviews annually, encourages staff development, and monitors adherence to employee standards.
  • Supports appropriate fellowship onboarding and contracting.
  • Hold the position of Designated Institutional Official and successfully completes all DIO duties.
  • Director of GME works closely with program director and DIO.
  • Performs functionally related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree plus two additional years of experience in the medical education field, (required)
  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Leadership, MHA, MBA, or similar (preferred)
  • 5 years of experience in the field of education
  • 1 year of experience in the field of medical education
  • Must possess skills in leadership; project management; fiscal responsibility; applicable computer and data management skills, and supervision.
  • Knowledge of GME; accreditation requirements, technologies and applications.
  • Knowledge of educational theory, computer literacy in PC software applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
