General Description:
The Direct Care Staff (Support Staff) serve as Providence Corporation’s arm in its mission to promote the principles of Everyday lives in the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Direct Care Staff are responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive environment for our individuals, and ensure that services provided are in compliance with the applicable Individual Services Plan, Behavioral Plan, and any other pertinent care information.
 
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the House Manager, Program Specialist, Program Director, Executive Director
 
Specific Duties:
  • Provide assistance to individuals, as needed, with preparation of everyday activities.
  • Assist individuals with engaging in daily chores, grocery shopping, menu planning, meal preparation and clean up.
  • Encourage, assist and monitor individual’s good personal hygiene and good nutrition.
  • Assist individuals with behavioral management, problem solving, conflict resolution, relationship building, and crisis management.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors and to promote social interaction.
  • Work with residents on achieving formal and informal goals such as use of public transportation, telephone use, social interaction, etc.
  • Assist with creating a natural environment for individuals.
  • Provide opportunities for individuals to use choice, decision making, and goal planning.
  • Train and monitor residents in the implementation and integration of independent skills.
  • Assist with medical administration in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist individuals with community integration, including using community resources.
  • Assist individuals with leisure and recreational activities planning and implementation.
  • Assist individuals with budgeting and financial managements.
  • Assist with assessing each individual’s abilities, interests and areas of need in order to ensure independent living.
  • Encourage empowerment, and assist individuals with building self-esteem and self-management.
  • Assist with the development of each individual’s ISP.
  • Assist with implementing each individual’s ISP.
  • Observe and document residents’ behavior, such as speech, feeding patterns, toilet training, to facilitate assessment and development of treatment goals.
  • Address behavioral crisis in a manner that is consistent with training, ISP, Behavioral Plans, and other pertinent documents.
  • Address emergency situation in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform daily record keeping, exchange information with other staff, and ensure that pertinent information is forwarded to the appropriate parties.
  • Assist with teaching individuals about basic first aid, fire safety, emergency skills, sexual education, and/or locating community resources for obtaining the same knowledge.
  • Conduct and initiate health and safety procedure checks such as fire drills, etc.
  • Report all abuse and/or other actions that violate individual’s rights.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Report all violations of the policies and procedures
  • Attend all applicable staff meetings, individual related meetings, and house meetings.
  • Attend training related to the care of assigned individuals.
  • Implement OSHA regulations, including ensure that pathways are clear of obstructions, snow shoveling, lifting, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • At least 18 years old
  • High School Graduate or equivalent (Preferred - possession of Certified Nursing Assistant certificate or equivalent)
  • At least two years of experience working with people with intellectual disabilities
  • Possession of valid driver’s license
  • Possession of safety training in CPR. First aid, and other safety measures

Salary:
Dependent on qualifications and experience, starting at $14 per hour.
Misc.:
The incumbent is subject to a criminal background check. The incumbent is also subject to a post offer physical, TB screening, and drug testing.
