The Clinical Educator has the shared responsibility and accountability for the clinical quality outcomes for patients/families, education of staff, and assist in resource management. Will take an integral role in planning, implementing, providing, and evaluating evidence-based education to the caregivers. The person in this position must demonstrate schedule flexibility, actively collaborates, develops partnerships, and is perceived as a team player.

  • Assess the clinical educational needs of staff. Facilitate project teams to design programs to meet specific educational outcomes.
  • Work in collaboration with customers and other stakeholders to develop annual educational goals, design and evaluate educational activities. Provide feedback regarding skills performance and competency of clinical staff.
  • Incorporate knowledge of changing organizational goals, current trends in healthcare, changing patient populations, clinical research and literature in the development and provision of educational programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of professional, regulatory and accreditation standards to ensure that educational offerings meet or exceed these standards.
  • Incorporate quality management and improvement processes into educational planning. Link educational programs to quality improvement findings. Participate in local or unit-based quality improvement teams.
  • Attends and participates in regular and ad hoc unit-based quality initiatives with a focus on identifying educational opportunities that results in maximizing positive clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborate with team members to facilitate achievement of educational objectives in a manner that avoids duplication of effort and maximizes resources.
  • Takes the lead in onboarding new staff that includes partnering with administrative support to ensure all appropriate clinical application accesses are achieved in timely manner.
  • Coordinates the orientation and mentorship of new nurses (fellows, residents, experienced new hires, support, and float staff). Routinely monitors the progress of the orientation to ensure goals are met.
  • Develops and execute a learning needs assessment of the unit on an annual basis for all clinical and support staff.
  • Contributes to employee’s professional goals and objectives by discussing educational needs of each employee with Nursing Leadership annually and adhoc.
  • Acts as a clinical resource. Bedside direct observation of the delivery of hands-on nursng care should be performed as necessary to educate and assure staff competency.
  • Makes unit rounds daily to remain familiar with patients and staff within assigned areas of service to assist and provide direction to nursing staff regarding clinical decision making service and priority setting.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree - Nursing Baccalaureate degree (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing. Or
  • Coursework/Training: Nursing degree.
  • Washington Registered Nurse License upon hire.
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
  • 3 years of recent experience at the bedside in Women’s & Infant Services, specifically high-risk Labor and Delivery with higher volumes. Functioned as Preceptor. Proficient working knowledge of evidenced based professional standards (AWHONN, ACOG, AAP). Proficient in adult teaching and learning principles.
  • 3 years of experience developing and providing education in a health care setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree - Nursing Leadership, Nursing Education, or Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Prior teaching experience (clinical instructor/lecturer for school of nursing).
