School Location: Providence Career and Technical Academy
Grade 9 MLL Transition Teachers Summer Learning Program 2024 (1 position)

Prep Days [NOT PD Days]: July 27, 2024
Program Dates: July 1 - July 30, 2024

Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 8:30am-2:30pm

Please Note: Teachers must commit for entire schedule during the Summer High School Learning Program.
Teachers need to provide academic instruction in math, ELA, and science. Must be Secondary certified.

Teaching positions are based upon enrollment and funding.

Current/valid RI Teacher Certificate in the appropriate Secondary subject area

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES

The ESL teacher is responsible for providing direct instruction to MLLs in the MLL summer program. They are responsible for the successful implementation of the following program goals:

• Minimizing summer learning loss through targeted, daily literacy and math instruction.

• Coordinating with enrichment teachers/ providers to help facilitate daily enrichment opportunities that support learning.

• Building student’s confidence/ familiarity with a new school setting
• Working in partnership with the Roger Williams University ESL certification program teachers to support with the summer practicum portion of their program
• Responsible for working with students as assigned throughout the entire summer session
• Must commit to working every day of the program.
• Must commit to following program routines/procedures
• Must commit to effective lesson design/implementation for students who are Multilingual Learners.
• Must commit to participation in professional development
• Must commit to having a growth mindset and receptive to feedback/coaching
• Additional duties as assigned

• Must commit to working all days of program as part of Summer Learning program requirements
• Must commit to attend all prep days as part of Summer Learning program requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS

• The Providence School Department requires an ESL teacher that meets the following qualifications:

  • Must believe that all MLLs are able to achieve at high levels with the appropriate supports in place.
  • Must be able to foster a culture that values the growth, development, and contributions of all students, and families
  • Must be able to collaborate with all MLL Summer Program staff
  • Must hold expertise in providing accommodations to Multilingual Learners at varying levels of language proficiency in order to ensure that they have meaningful access to high quality instruction.
  • Must demonstrate excellence in classroom management.
  • Must have superior interpersonal communication and written skills.
  • Must be familiar with district, school policy and discipline procedures.
  • Must be familiar with emergency procedures.
  • Must demonstrate excellent skills in the use of utilization of online learning platforms (google classroom, google meet, zoom) and PPSD platforms including, but not limited to, SKYWARD and ELlevations
  • Applicants must follow through on school and department commitments in a timely manner
  • Bilingual candidate preferred (Spanish, Swahili, Arabic, Quiche, Khmer, Portuguese)
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
