Providence Engineering and Environmental Group LLC is Hiring an Archaeological Field/Laboratory Technician Near Baton Rouge, LA

Description

SUMMARY:

This position is an Archaeological Field/Laboratory Technician and is a full-time employment position. The employee will participate in both office and field activities. The employee will function as part of a team and as support staff to the Project Archaeologist and Principal Investigator for a variety of projects. Assignments will include assisting in monitoring, Phase I, II, and III archaeological fieldwork, laboratory analyses, and various office-based activities. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • B.A./B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or other closely related fields.
  • Previous experience in archaeology fieldwork or completion of an archaeology field school required.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Must have detailed note taking skills.
  • Communicate effectively and work closely with fellow employees. 
  • Must be able to operate GPS units.
  • Ability to identify precontact and historic artifacts of the Southeast, United States a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the Project Archaeologist or Principal Investigator will conduct archaeological fieldwork at a variety of levels including survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery excavations. 
  • Assist with laboratory analysis consisting of sorting, counting, weighing cultural material, cataloging, data entry, and artifact photography under staff supervision. 
  • Office duties includes filing and scanning records and paperwork, completing record searches, and assisting in writing portions of reports under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Ensure safety and quality standards, policies and procedures are complied with.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to travel frequently and on short notice.
  • Ability to travel overnight for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk long distances, recurring bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, digging, and similar activities. 
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 30 lbs. 
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on varied terrain, sometimes for extended periods of time.
