JK – 8th Grade Physical Education (PE) Teacher
Providence Academy is a Christian independent school that was founded ten years ago with a mission of providing “uncompromising excellence in educating and equipping students with Truth.” The school serves approximately 225 students in Junior Kindergarten – 8th grade.
The PE Teacher will inspire students to a lifetime of physical fitness by teaching physical education classes for students in Junior Kindergarten through 8th grade. He/She will be responsible for developing the student’s physical ability and knowledge of exercise/sports/athletics. The PE Teacher will support the Athletic Director to enhance and build the physical education program at Providence Academy. The PE Teacher is responsible for the welfare of the students under their supervision. The PE Teacher will report to the Athletic Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Develop, lead, and manage PE lessons/classes for students in Junior Kindergarten through Eighth Grade.
· Provide a safe, prayerful, educational environment for students to learn new skills and demonstrate the five attributes of the school’s Portrait of a Graduate.
· Create and nurture an environment for the growth of students in terms of their spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs.
· Motivate and encourage children to participate in class, embrace new experiences, and join after-school athletic teams.
· Understand and provide a balance for students in terms of winning a game vs. consistently demonstrating Christ-centered character, healthy sportsmanship qualities, being a team player, and a hunger to do their best for the team.
· Be aware of the health and safety of students while instructing them.
· Evaluate the performance of students and identify their strengths and opportunities for improvement.
· Provide comprehensive reports for parents during grading periods.
· Communicate and interact effectively with students, parents/guardians, classroom teachers, other physical education teachers, Administration, and the community.
· Keep all PE equipment stocked, organized, and maintained.
· Expertly manage programs, including establishing routines, and updating policies and procedures, as necessary.
· Collaborate with Providence Academy leadership on ensuring top-quality programs that expand possibilities for engagement within the school and across the community and region.
· Provide support for overall school operations.
· Coach agreed upon Middle School athletic teams.
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Dedicated to the school’s mission and ability to sign the school’s Statement of Faith.
· Excellent listening, written, and oral communication skills.
· Works collaboratively with others and can build a circle of influence.
· Demonstrated leadership and experience in developing, leading, and managing physical education classes.
· Experience teaching physical education to elementary age children, preferred.
· Bachelor's Degree required.
· First Aid and CPR certification, preferred. Must be willing to become certified before the start of the next school year.
