ProTeX The PT Xperts is Hiring a Construction Worker (FT) Near Tucson, AZ

Construction Worker- Early Mornings
PAID TRAINING PROGRAM
Our Field Technicians are Certified in Construction Materials Testing & Inspections and training is done on the job. Minimum Certifications include- ACI and ATTI (American Concrete Institute and Arizona Technical Testing Institute)- these cover Concrete, Asphalt, and other Geotechnical Materials. Completing certifications and training come with pay bumps and the majority of techs earn ACI and our internal training by end of their 1st year.
BENEFITS:
  • Work truck and gas card- after training our Techs use the Work Trucks to commute every day- that can save in wear, tear, and gas on your own car.
  • Starting Hourly pay is $16/hour.
  • Paid Time Off and 6 Paid Holidays/year.
  • Insurance in Health, Dental, Vision, and 401k.
YOU BRING VALUE!
Descriptions always start with responsibilities or bragging about the company. How about we first dive into why you might even want this career and what you can bring to the table. This is not a labor-intensive side of construction; it is a gradual progression toward technical. This industry is based on how much knowledge and understanding you have. Not always how long you can last when it's 115 degrees outside. You aren’t paid for breaking your back over finishing concrete. You are paid to be the eyes and ears of our Professional Engineers in making a very important and objective decision. It's either to pump the brakes on that part of the construction process or to sign off on it and allow the project to move forward.
If you want to feel like your job matters, then having 10-15 of your signatures inside the walls of a brand-new structure should help you feel that way. You decide if something has been built the way it should be and at ProTeX, you acquire Certifications that back that signature and help others know that your evaluation is crucial to Construction. Builders entrust us to value our signatures by understanding what it means and they expect us to hold them accountable.
DAY-TO-DAY SUMMARY:
You can expect to leave your house, pick up your Nuke Gauge from the Lab, and head out to your first Concrete Pour- typically 2-3 am but fluctuates to a later time of 5-6 am. The days at this time are longer than usual, you can expect an hour or two of overtime each day but we are working on getting everyone down to their regular 40. After you finish your day, drop the Nuke Gauge off and then head home!
In further detail, you have the crucial role to conduct a variety of inspections each day and at several different construction sites- the construction sites that you oversee and theSuperintendents that you get to build a relationship with and work with them as you help inspect different areas of the project. Having a relationship certainly softens the blow for the moment you may have to deliver a red sticker that fails their inspection. Inspections vary in how much time they consume, some can range between 15-45 minutes, and the need to drive your work truck from site to site can total 3-4 hours in the truck- sometimes half the day. If you like listening to podcasts or audiobooks, then you’ll have plenty of time for that!
SCHEDULE:
(Please read and be aware.)
  • When Concrete pours are done, they are done early. 115 degrees is not an exaggeration, so getting work done when it's 99 degrees with no sun is more manageable.
  • Our Field Techs do their best to avoid the summer heat here in AZ and that requires being up early- anywhere between 12:30 am to 5 am, depending on where you live in the valley.
  • The schedule is sent out the night before- between 5 pm-6 pm- and provides the time of your first inspection the next day.
  • While our Techs are working overtime to suit demand, 8–10-hour days are common at this time but keeping our Techs to 40 hours/week is always our goal and management is the one leading that effort.
GROWTH OPPORTUNITY:
Level I Technician to a Fully Certified Level IV Senior Field Technician!
Our Field Technicians have a tangible career path full of progression that is designed to advance each one of them according to their own pace and ambition. The faster you learn, the faster you advance; however, that doesn’t mean you can skip steps, you need to acquire a thorough understanding in order to advance. The progression path is measured in Levels based on experience and knowledge. After mastering the required inspections and types of jobs, you are then eligible to be evaluated to advancement from Level I to Level II, and so on. Who do you trust to come and fix your home Air Conditioner, a random service tech, or a Certified HVAC/R Tech who has the training and hours to back their expertise? Our Techs all get certified- as long as they want to.
A strong Technician can advance from a Level I to a Level IV in 4-6 years. Envision that in 4-6 years with Certifications through the American Concrete Institute, Arizona Technical Testing Institute, Land Development, and an overall expert in the world of Construction Materials Testing. All of that training and education with no student debt. That also means that by promoting through 4 levels and a few Internal benchmarks, there are several bumps in pay. You are not stagnant at Protex. If you work hard you become an Xpert- that’s why we are Protex, the PT Xperts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Construction monitoring and testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, and other materials through a variety of technical methods.
  • Utilize our internal software to report test results, site conditions, and project information as assigned.
  • Learn how to read construction documents to determine project details and specifications.
  • Train through hands-on and textbook experience on Materials Testing & Inspections and prepare to be certified by American Concrete Institute and ATTI for Aggregate and Soils Testing.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and adhere to timelines and deadlines
  • Springboard your career into Construction- learn and network with all trades involved in construction- concrete finishing, framing, carpentry, Engineering, painting, landscaping, and more.
