Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Engineer / Electrical is responsible for monitoring and improving the quality and performance of our wire and cable products. Priorities include designing quality standards, inspecting materials, equipment, processes, and products. The QA Engineer will interface with design and process engineering, manufacturing, and other departments daily to ensure the performance of our products meets or exceeds all internal and external requirements.

The QA Engineer will perform statistical analysis and issue recommendations to reduce process variation. 

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for wire and cable test equipment, results analysis, and test methods.
  • Recommend and implement projects to increase repeatability and reliability. 
  • Maintain test data to ensure traceability.
  • Collaborate with design & manufacturing teams to establish quality specifications and standards.
  • Perform Gauge R&R studies where required.
  • Assist lab staff with QC issues relating to signal performance and failure analysis.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective action to address problems in a timely manner.
  • Help to establish and monitor KPIs to measure and improve product performance.
  • Interface with suppliers and vendors to ensure the quality of incoming materials.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to continually improve overall product quality and reliability.

Core Competencies 

  • Attention to detail necessary.
  • Statistical analysis skills with experience implementing SPC.
  • Proven experience in quality engineering with wire and cable or other electrical components.
  • Familiarity with relevant quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in the use of formal problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to provide effective training as needed.
  • Respond to shifting priorities in a cooperative manner.
  • Expertise of lab testing methodology, process, and procedures.
  • Proficient computer skills utilizing Microsoft Excel and Word, and customized programs.
  • Reading, writing, and comprehension skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to interact with co-workers, customers, etc.

Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position is not responsible for the oversight or performance management of other employees.

Safety Expectations

  • Obey all safety rules, use caution in work activities, and continuously practice safe behaviors.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions/behaviors and work-related injuries to site supervision.

Physical Demand

  • Finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination for operation of office equipment, including PC.
  • Sitting and standing for periods of time, working at a desk in both office and lab environment. 
  • Light lifting, carrying of files and supplies, ability to move, or lift up to 50 lbs. of objects and/or materials.
  • Ability to speak and hear customers, suppliers, and or other employees via phone or in person.
  • Body motor skills sufficient to move from one office location to another throughout plan.

Position Type and Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position. The typical hours are 7AM-4PM or 8AM-5PM with a 1-hour lunch break. 

Travel

Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Significant experience in wire and cable is preferable.
  • Experience with ISO9001 quality systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of performance measurement and monitoring methods required.
