WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The Software Engineer develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diversesoftware systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithmdevelopment, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, andbusiness management information systems) based upon documented requirements.Works individually or as part of a team. Reviews and tests software componentsfor adherence to the design requirements and documents test results. Resolvessoftware problem reports. Utilizes software development and software designmethodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specificinput to the software components of system design to include hardware/softwaretradeoffs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS)/GovernmentOff-the-shelf (GOTS) in place of new development, and requirements analysis andsynthesis from system level to individual software components.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Fourteen (14) years experience as a SWE in programs and contracts of similarscope, type, and complexity is required. Bachelor’s degree in computer scienceor related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Four(4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar softwareprocesses may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
 The candidate shall possess the following capabilities.

  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performancerequirements.
  • Debug existing software and correct defects.
  • Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software developmentprocess standards.
  • Design and code new software or modify existingsoftware to add new features.
  • Integrate existing software into new ormodified systems or operating environments.
  • Develop simple data queriesfor existing or proposed databases or data repositories.
  • Write orreview software and system documentation.
  • Serve as team lead at thelevel appropriate to the software development process being used on anyparticular project.
  • Design or implement complex database or datarepository interfaces/queries.
  • Develop or implement algorithms to meetor exceed system performance and functional standards.
  • Assist withdeveloping and executing test procedures for software components.
  • Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, conferwith users or system engineers; analyze systems flow, data usage, and workprocesses; and investigate problem areas.
  • Modify existing software tocorrect errors, to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance.
  • Design, develop, and modify software systems, using scientific analysis andmathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences ofdesign.
  • Design or implement complex algorithms requiring adherence tostrict timing, system resource, or interface constraints; Perform qualitycontrol on team products.
  • Implement recommendations for improvingdocumentation and software development process standards.
  • Oversee oneor more software development teams and ensure the work is completed inaccordance with the constraints of the software development process being usedon any particular project.
  • Confer with system engineers and hardwareengineers to derive software requirements and to obtain information on projectlimitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning toensure operational specifications are met.
  • Recommend new technologiesand processes for complex software projects.
  • Serve as the technicallead of multiple software development teams.
  • Select the softwaredevelopment process in coordination with the customer and systemengineering.
  • Ensure quality control of all developed and modifiedsoftware.
  • Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to one ormore teams and monitor their performance.
