Prosper, Town of (TX) is Hiring an Utility Maintenance Supervisor (Wastewater) Near TX 75078, TX

Hiring Range: $63,477.74 - $74,679.69 (Annually)
Full Salary Range: $63,477.74 - $85,881.64 (Annually)
Under general direction of the Water & Wastewater Superintendent, plans, organizes and supervises water production, water distribution and sewer operations and staff within the Utility Division of the Public Works Department. Provides staff support to the Director of Public Works as needed.
 
The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description
 
Supervision Received and Exercised
  • Receives general direction from the Water & Wastewater Superintendent.
  • Supervises assigned staff within the Utility Division.
Essential Functions
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Exercises direct supervision over other division when required.
  •  Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives; establishes schedules and methods for effectively providing water and wastewater maintenance services; implements policies and procedures.
  • Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of staff involved in wastewater activities and operations.
  • Ensures that water and wastewater under construction are properly barricaded and secured.
  • Participates in water and wastewater maintenance activities by providing technical expertise and operating vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensures the adherence to safe work practices by maintenance personnel.
  • Identifies maintenance and repair needs and recommends corrective action.
  • Responds to emergency operations of the water and wastewater division; prepares for and confronts emergency conditions as necessary to maintain efficient and effective Town services.
  • Maintains an inventory of equipment, tools and supplies; transports tools and equipment to various job sites.
  • Answers questions and provides information to the public; investigates complaints and recommends corrective action as necessary to resolve the complaints.
  • Participates in selection of staff as requested; provides staff training as necessary; evaluates employee performance as required; and, works with employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Attends and participates in supervisory training as necessary or requested.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Additional Duties

  • Work and support special Town events as needed.
  • Provides staff support due to unexpected weather conditions.
Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
 
Experience:
  • Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience in utility operations and maintenance including one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Must pass MVR check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
 
Training:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Specialized training in street maintenance and construction.
 
 License or Certification:
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license.
  • Possession of a valid CDL or obtain within first year of employment.
  • Possession of a Class C Water Operator license.
  • Possession of a Class II Wastewater Collection license.
Knowledge of:
  • Techniques and procedures involved in collecting water samples.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping and report preparation.
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluations.
  • Budgeting procedures and techniques.
  • Town policies and procedures.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Computer skills using Windows, WordPerfect, Microsoft Office applications, Internet, Adobe Acrobat and conversion techniques, and Microsoft Outlook.
 
Ability to:
  • Plan, organize and supervise the work of assigned personnel.
  • Supervise skilled maintenance, construction and repair work.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Use levels and transits to establish line and grade.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Prioritize and organize various assignments in order to produce efficient results.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Provide tactful and appropriate responses to inquiries from the public, other departments or agencies.

  • Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision required includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to extreme cold and heat.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Regularly exposed to vibration.
  • Occasionally works in high, precarious places and with explosives.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. Employee must have ability to maintain concentration in the midst of interruptions and background noise.
