About the Role:

Prospect Schools is seeking a mission and student outcomes -driven Middle School Director of ELA & Humanities Instruction to join us in support of our growing network of schools. The ideal candidate is fully dedicated to the mission of Prospect Schools and to supporting the success of our teachers, students and families. This person will report directly to the Principal and be responsible for managing the quality and the academic & social outcomes of students in ELA & Humanities instruction for grades 6-8 in the school.

School Leadership

  • Serve as a core member of the school leadership team by participating in weekly School Management Team meetings.

  • Co-plan with the Principal school wide content specific initiatives.

  • Partner with the Principal on critical decisions and where necessary lead the development of recommendations and strategic plans (the how, when and where) in support of key decisions and initiatives started by the Principal.

  • Support in the initial steps in the hiring process for roles for the content areas under their purview.

  • Cultivate a sense of shared ownership for upholding values of an inclusive community through adult accountability and active modeling of school-wide expectations.

  • Co-plan with the principal efforts and initiatives to support character development and positive school culture for the whole school and for specific grades managed.

  • Lead family engagement for families of grade levels managed by planning and participating in key family events, addressing family concerns, holding family office hours and active participation in the school’s PTSO.

  • Lead and provide professional development for Teacher Leaders (e.g., Grade Team Leaders)

  • Provide consistent feedback to staff and students re: performance goals and upholding community expectations

Academics and Instruction

  • Responsible for teacher performance management which includes coaching (on both academic preparation and lesson execution and classroom culture and management), developing, evaluating, and as necessary documenting, teachers across content areas of responsibility via at least bi-weekly 1:1s and reaching time coaching sessions.

  • Progress monitor and develop strategy to improve outcomes on priority academic and culture data (e.g.;formative and summative assessment data, homework completion rates, attendance patterns, etc.); communicate strategic plans for improvement and progress towards goals to students, teachers and parents

  • Analyze school wide data in order to design responsive and effective student interventions in partnership with the Director of Student Supports, including participating in the RTI/MTSS process for students within content areas managed.

  • Develop highly effective ELA academic structures including: instructional curriculum and schedule, in collaboration with Principal and Team Teaching & Learning in the Network Support (“Treehouse”) office

  • Observe teachers and their lessons regularly and deliver targeted feedback ; where necessary, design and implement comprehensive coaching plans to support high-needs classrooms

  • Collaborate with content teams to facilitate planning of units, lessons and assessments; model effective instructional practices and regularly review and provide adjusting feedback

  • Support teachers in planning and monitoring high-impact support plans for students

  • Model outstanding instruction for teachers

  • Plan, execute and monitor impact of inspiring professional development sessions in line with school goals and priorities

  • Train teacher-leaders to facilitate high-impact planning and intervention meetings

Student Culture

  • Plan and participate in all school wide events and community building activities as a representative for the school

  • Responsible for responding to tier 2 and tier 3 incidents which includes responding to the behavior, completing any documentation, conducting parent follow up and partnering with the Director of Student Supports on these activities and to deploy preventative student and teacher supports.

  • Model building strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families and support teachers to do the same

  • Analyze school wide and content specific culture data and make plans to address growth areas in the data.

  • Conduct classroom management professional development for all teachers and struggling content teachers/teachers under purview.

  • Participate in, observe and as necessary give feedback on the execution of all schoolwide systems.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • At least 3-5 years of teaching experience in a diverse by design environment preferred

  • Deep understanding of ELA curriculum at the middle school level

  • Prior experience directly managing, observing, and coaching teachers

  • Exceptionally strong organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail

  • Adept at collaborating and building community with others

Salary:

Employees at Prospect Schools are provided with a competitive salary. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. The salary range for this role is from $105,000-$130,000.
