    School Counselor (Elementary) Job Description
    All employees at Prospect Ridge Academy work together to create academic, social, and ethical leaders. This job description is an overview of duties and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed.
    The Elementary School Counselor is responsible for implementing Character Education while showing empathy and social/emotional learning support. This position will assist with students' social, emotional, and academic needs. This position will accomplish these duties while working with students, parents, other teachers, and staff toward achieving the goals outlined in the Prospect Ridge Academy Mission Statements.
    The Elementary School Counselor at PRA will
    • Be responsible for conducting an organized and professional classroom/environment.
      • Plan and implement the approved Character Education curriculum
      • Demonstrate exceptional instructional delivery
      • Model and foster independent thinking skills, creative problem solving, and abstract reasoning
      • Show empathy and understanding for students
      • Provide social and emotional counseling for all students
      • Provide academic counseling to students
      • Works with individual and small groups of students as needed
    • Communicate consistently and effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
      • Develops a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity with parents and students
      • Assesses student performance frequently and objectively
      • Facilitate resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents
      • Promote accountability for students
      • Attend MTSS, PST, IEP, and meetings as needed
      • Acts as the 504 Coordinator for grades K-5
    • Leads K-5th grade monthly assemblies
    • Manage and support K-5th grade service-learning projects
    • Knowledge of and adherence to approved communication pathways
    • Actively pursues professional development opportunities in specific content areas according to ASCA Guidelines
    • Participate in and contributes to programs and activities that enhance Prospect Ridge Academy outside of instructional hours
    • Follow policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State-mandated school guidelines, except where PRA has received waivers
    • Complete other duties as assigned
    Requirements:
    • A Master's degree required
    • Current Colorado Special Services Provider: School Counselor license preferred, Social Worker licensure also accepted
    • Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery
    • Demonstrated experience in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach and strong conflict management skills
    • Commitment to Core Knowledge curriculum
    • Commitment to the implementation of Character Education and Positive Behavior System
    Physical Requirements
    • The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

    Reporting
    This position reports to the Elementary School Principal.
    Working Conditions
    Work is occasionally regularly performed inside and outside with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures. Work is performed in all weather conditions and includes moderate and sometimes loud noise exposure. This is a highly public position that includes contact with students, staff, Administrators, Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, and parents. Occasionally work may consist of ten (10) plus hour days with weekend work as needed.
    • SALARY:
      $20.00 per hour

      Prospect Ridge Academy also offers a total compensation package including:
      • MEDICAL: There are three options for Medical coverage.

      • Vision: Vision insurance is provided by VSP.
      • LIFE/AD&D: You are provided 1x your annual salary as group term life insurance through Lincoln Financial Group.
      -STD/LTD: PRA pays the entire cost of both short and long-term disability benefits.
      • PERA: Administered by Colorado PERA, this is a tax deferred retirement account to which you contribute 11% of your monthly earnings. Additionally, PRA contributes 21% to the PERA pension trust fund on your behalf.
