Propel Schools is Hiring a Senior Accountant - General Ledger (Hybrid) Near Pittsburgh, PA

Propel seeks a Senior Accountant - General Ledger for our Business Office. This position is based at our Southside Administrative Office (3447 East Carson St. Pittsburgh, PA) and is available immediately. Propel Schools offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits program. This is a year-round position.
Job Summary:

Propel Schools is the largest, fastest expanding charter school in the state with 13 schools throughout Allegheny County. Propel Schools is dedicated to transforming public education so that all children have access to high-performing public schools.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing complex accounting duties including analysis of general ledger accounting records, preparation of accounting schedules, reports and financial statements. Prepares journal entries, and reconciles ledger accounts to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and organizational policies, procedures and contracts. This position requires sound analytical skills, hands-on accounting experience and an in-depth understanding
of accounting principles.
Key Job Elements
  • Leads the month end close processes, including preparing journal entries, detailed account reconciliations, financial reports and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for non-profit organizations, including internal financial statements, grant reports, external reporting, and ad hoc reporting.
  • Prepare intercompany and inter-fund balancing adjusting journal entries.
  • Support revenue accounting and accounts payable functions as needed.
  • Develop, establish, and document new accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Coordinates and participates in special projects as needed.
  • Under limited supervision acts independently, resolves complex issues, and act as a resource to others.
  • Maintain financial management software systems to streamline processes and improve reporting capabilities.
  • Review general ledger detail and expense run-rates to identify and record required adjustments and reclassifications.
  • Assist with the identification and implementation of process improvement initiatives.
    Provide internal and external auditors with requested documentation.
Qualifications & and Skills:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or other Business-related fields
  • 3 years' experience in similar or related role
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, emphasis on Excel
  • Knowledgeable in Google Suite applications
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
Preferred:
  • Non-Profit Accounting and/or Governmental accounting experience is a plus
  • Experience in a PA public school setting is a plus
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Blackbaud Financial Edge, and UKG payroll systems is a plus

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Compensation: Propel provides a competitive salary for coaches. Based on relevant prior work experience, our salary range for this role is $55,000 - $65,000.
  • Relocation Allowance: A relocation allowance for new hires moving to the area from 60 miles away or further.
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plan options at a low cost for individual employees and families.
  • Retirement: New hires participate in a 403(b); Propel contributes 5% automatically and matches up to 4%. This increases after 5 years.
  • Paid Leave: In addition to 16-19 paid holidays, the Senior Accountant will receive 5 sick days and 10 Personal Days. The Senior Accountant will also accrue 3.332 hours of vacation time per pay period.
  • Tuition Assistance: Reimbursement of up to $3,000 annually upon completion of course and receipt of grades for coursework that meets our eligibility requirements.
  • Wellness Benefit: Reimbursement of $20 per month for wellness activities including Gym Memberships, health programs, etc. Additionally, staff have the ability to earn up to $300 for participation in a Wellness Program each year.
  • Professional Development: At Propel, we believe in supporting staff growth and provide substantial school-based and network-wide professional development support for all staff. THe Senior Accountant will participate in Professional Development throughout the school year.
