Promontory is currently operating 3 golf courses. The courses include The Pete Dye Canyon course, The Jack Nicklaus Painted Valley Signature course, and an 18-hole par 3 course, The Hills, designed by Forrest Richardson and Jeff Danner.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Agronomy to oversee the course maintenance operation of the three distinct courses. Each of the three golf courses employs a superintendent, assistant superintendent and full maintenance staff. The Superintendents report to this Director position. The Director of Agronomy reports to the Director of Club Operations and must build a close synergistic relationship with the Director of Golf.

Essential Duties –

  • Posses the education and work experience to maintain high end mountain golf courses in Park City, Utah to quality standards expected for a private luxury club.
  • Ensure the playability of the Promontory courses meeting the specifications of the course designers.
  • Ensure Superintendents, Asst. Superintendents, and hourly staff are professionally trained and mentored to accomplish the daily/seasonal activities of the department.
  • Consistently participate in continuing education opportunities in the following areas: agronomic practices, water conservation, chemical/fertilizer use, and laws related to their application.
  • Develop operating and capital budgets and operate the departments to meet the financials goals.
  • Develop and implement ongoing training programs.
  • Ensure safe work practices are a priority.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft office Outlook, Excel, and Word programming.
  • Coordinate the overall direction of the superintendents in recruitment, training, and supervision of the golf maintenance staff.
  • Forecast the needs and lead the recruitment efforts to maintain a seasonal staff sufficient to meet the excellent desired course conditions.
  • Work as a team with the golf professionals creating cooperation for tournaments, daily play, and general course conditions.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of mower operations, utility carts, tractor, spreaders, irrigation systems, and small equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Equipment Managers/Superintendents to repair, clean, paint, and refurbish equipment.
  • Make consistent inspections of the golf courses in partnership with the Director of Golf and Director of Club Operations to evaluate standards and facilitate the changes necessary for constant improvement.
  • Experience with bunker renovation projects preferred (planned upcoming bunker renovation projects in next 1-2 years)
  • Winter work consists of snow removal and equipment maintenance projects in addition to planning for the following season.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus!

Must possess a 2-year or 4-year degree in turf grass management along with 10 plus years in golf course maintenance operations and supervision. Multi-course operation experience is preferred. Mountain golf course experience strongly preferred.

Competitive base salary based on experience and is benefit-eligible for health, dental, life and vision insurance. Eligible for participation in the company’s annual discretionary bonus program.
