Mission Statement

To provide affordable independent housing for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities utilizing public and private partnerships to develop a model community.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• The RA is intended to be a “safety net” for the residents of Promise.
• Primary responsibility is to have a presence on campus and assist in handling “urgent” or “emergency” situations (those situations that involve the health and safety of Residents) that occur during non-office hours. Non-office hours include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Follow the "on call" schedule for assigned days. RA must be on campus while "on call"
• RA will conduct the evening activity for assigned on call days.
• Keep careful written records that document any unusual behavior or policy, lease violations.
• Completing a daily report when "on call" to keep the team appraised of issues, concerns and occurrences.
• Call and request emergency services as needed.
• Communicate any type of significant health and safety concerns/issues to the family and or guardians as appropriate.
• Mentoring the residents on how-to be good neighbors and good roommates.
• Welcome new residents and assist in their orientation to Promise.
• Encourage residents to make good choices. Act as a role model at all times.
• Instruct/ Assist residents in resolving resident/roommate/ neighbor issues on their own, engaging family and assistance as needed.
• Attend scheduled meetings and trainings with RAs, supervisor and Promise staff for reporting as required.
• Oversee standards of cleanliness and maintenance & ensure residents maintain the cleanliness of their personal space.
• RA shall complete other duties assigned by the Residence Services Manager.

RAs will receive the following accommodations and compensation: The RA lives on site, with one additional RA living in a two-bedroom apartment. Compensation for all RAs will include the provision of an apartment, including all accommodations, such as internet, water/sewer, electricity and basic cable. RAs are responsible for paying all additional telephone or cable charges as they occur.

• RAs will be paid a bi-weekly stipend of $150.00.
• RAs are permitted to have employment outside of Promise. However, it is understood that RAs are expected to be an active member of the community and have a presence on campus even when not on duty. They are required to be available and on campus for all hours when scheduled to be on call. RAs are also permitted to have house guests when not on duty. House guests are permitted to stay overnight, but overnight stays are not to exceed one week, unless a longer stay is approved by the Resident Services Manager

Qualifications and Required Skills:

• High School diploma.
• Experience working with persons with intellectual and physical disabilities required.
• Must exhibit positive personal qualities, sensitivity, compassion and an interest in people with special needs.
• RA shall also exhibit neutrality, respect for an individual’s dignity and self-worth, confidentiality, open-mindedness on issues, a degree of empathy, and an ability to handle situations with autonomy while making sound decisions.
• Be able to lead classes or activities for adults with varying levels of abilities.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and mediation skills.
• Ability to maintain and respect confidentiality.
• Acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries with residents while building trust and respect.
• Ability to exercise appropriate authority when needed and good judgment in crisis situations.
• Must be able to operate a personal computer with proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and web-based platforms.
• Must pass a criminal background check, a drug screening exam and a motor vehicle check.
• Weekend/holiday work are required.
• Maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED administration.
