TITLE: Temp Controller

REPORTS TO: CFO

Salary: $72.11/HR.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Controller under the supervision of the CFO will ensure sound financial, reporting, and planning of the organization and all related programs, properties, and contracts. Manage staff to ensure timely and accurate accounting of all financial transactions, evaluate risks, and communicate results. As a key member of the team, the Controller will support program leadership, and executive team with all financial, budgetary, and forecasting matters. The Controller will monitor and provide regular financial analysis, forecasting, variance reporting, and cash analysis on a monthly and quarterly basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all financial transactions are in accordance to GAAP, Progress Foundations policies, nonprofit accounting standards, and government contracting compliance.
  • Work with program staff to produce the annual operating budgets, track performance through monthly variance analysis, and assure proper fiscal control.
  • Create financial reporting, analysis, and forecasting tools.
  • Develop policies and procedure for internal financial controls.
  • Work with program managers and property managers in the review and analysis of financial results to budget.
  • Manage accounting and payroll staff
  • Ensure compliance with State, City of SF and City Contractors ordinances
  • Manage the execution of all contracts, grants, and rental income recording and collections.
  • Work with staff to analyses receivable, allowance, and vacancy accounts for all programs and properties.
  • Develop budgeting and analysis tool.
  • Assist with all capital planning and analysis,
  • Develop ongoing communications and reports for the CFO.
  • Mentor, train, and recruit staff.
  • Management of the annual audits and tax return submission for all programs and properties.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and required competencies

  • BA in Accounting or Finance required, MBA or CPA preferred
  • Proven success working in a complex organization, experience in a nonprofit environment strongly preferred
  • Proven experience in managing and coordinating audit activities and managing reports, general ledger, budgeting, and payroll.
  • Highly competent in technical accounting, financial analysis, and financial reporting,
  • Proven ability to lead a diverse accounting and payroll team. Proven ability to collaborate on projects.
  • 8-10 years of accounting and finance experience preferably in a nonprofit environment.
  • Experience in effectively communicating, both verbally and in written communications, key data, including presentations to team, senior management, board and other internal and outside partners.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of GAAP, Nonprofit and governmental accounting, budget preparation, financial monitoring, and financial control in a multi program environment.
  • Working knowledge of governmental reporting and compliance monitoring.
  • Property management and government funding experience required.
  • Advance excel, word, and accounting software skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet overlapping deadlines.
  • A collaborative and flexible work-style, as an active and engaged team player.

Physical and Cognitive Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. The position also calls for the ability to concentrate, to be able to handle multi-tasking and interruptions (sometimes under time pressure), and the ability to work independently, using sound discretion and judgment.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to work independently and exercise sound administrative judgment; position requires the ability to work as part of a management team.
  • Demonstrated experience with, and sensitivity to, the needs and circumstances of persons with severe mental disabilities; this includes direct experience with services serving a diverse ethnic and cultural population.
  • At all times must be able to negotiate several flights of stairs multiple times during each work shift, and must be able to lift and carry 20 lb. packages multiple times during the work shift.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $72.11 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
