We do this by supporting children, families and child care providers in Essex County through advocacy and action, providing education and referrals, sharing best practices and helping families access available financial resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Parent Resource Specialist, you will be responsible for providing outreach primarily to the Spanish speaking community to inform them of agency programs and resources. In addition to participating in community events, the Parent Resource Specialist will work with the Essex County Council for Young Children to coordinate initiatives and facilitate discussions on issues that affect the health, education and safety of children from pregnancy to age 8. Specific duties include:

• Refer participants to resources and services to address their needs
• Perform two-way translation Spanish to English; English to Spanish over the phone, in-person and through written correspondence
• Perform clerical and administrative duties
• Manage social media accounts and monitor and report engagement
• Create marketing materials for programs and events
• Attend all community meetings and events
• Conduct surveys and follow-up assessments

Knowledge and Skills:

• Demonstrated cultural competence in Latino culture
• Demonstrated knowledge of subsidy programs, eligibility and procedures
• Extensive knowledge of all services and programs offered by PfP
• Excellent writing, public speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to display compassion and professionalism while working with diverse populations
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to multitask
• Strong computer skills- mastery of Google Tools, Microsoft Office, Zoom and social media platforms
• Demonstrate effective, critical thinking strategies and appropriate decision making
• Strong customer service skills

Education and Experience:

• Associate’s Degree preferred
• Bilingual English-Spanish required
• Training experience preferred

Requirements:

• evening and weekend availability
• Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds
• Reliable private transportation and a valid NJ state driver’s license
