We are seeking a Lead Hardware Engineer to join the team responsible for the design, development, production, integration, and life cycle support of the Common Weapon Launcher (CWL) and Multi-Tube Weapon Simulator (MTWS) systems onboard U.S. Navy (USN) and foreign Navy submarines. The CWL provides power, data conversion, and interfaces to fielded weapons and controls the launch of payloads from submarine Vertical and Horizontal Launching Systems. The MTWS provides weapon simulation capability for the USN and foreign submarine horizontal weapon control systems. The development team works with the Navy, internal production staff, and representatives from other companies that provide companion systems and services to ensure systems meet all requirements, are delivered on time and are robust, high reliability and provide the warfighter with the best tools and technology to achieve maritime superiority.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads Hardware requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, system integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition of the system, subsystem, or system elements with little or no supervision
  • Coordinate all activities across multiple engineering disciplines relating to design, procurement, and production of Engineering Development Model (EDM) systems
  • Develop and brief formal technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to get approval of designs and development plans from Program Management and the Navy customer team
  • Review and provide feedback of all lower-level technical data produced by the program
  • Interact with customers at technical levels
  • Leads technical planning, cost and risk analysis, and manufacturability/supportability analyses for subsystems and system elements
  • Develop schedules and budgets for new opportunities as well as owning and executing against defined funding profiles and timelines
  • Researches and analyzes data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/GFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Frequent contacts with all levels across the design team and program management
Skills/Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Sound understanding and ability to architect highly custom military electronic and mechanical designs, development, and testing processes
  • Collaborates with software engineers and other program technical SME in design and testing of computer/electrical hardware, circuits, and related components
  • Ability to rapidly adapt to handling technical issues found in system integration labs, production facilities and fielded environments including customer labs and onboard Navy platforms
  • Ability to lead and promote career development of a strong team of hardware designers including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, firmware developers and manufacturing and test engineers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to be proactive in forming good working relationships with all team members
  • Travel is required as part of this position, but not on a regular basis

Education/Experience

  • BS in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 15 years of technical experience working in one of these disciplines
  • 5 years of Submarine Combat System or Weapon System experience a plus
  • 5 years of overseeing a technical hardware design team a plus

Security Clearance

This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

Physical and Mental Requirements for all positions:

  • General ability to operate computer and other productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine, printer, etc.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 15 pounds at times
  • Effectively communicate with others
  • Ability to stay focused and provide attention to detail.
