NATURE OF WORK

The Operations Supervisor is a professional administrative position involving the direction and management of the Transportation Department. Under policies established by Professional Transit Management of Waukesha, Inc. and under the general administrative direction of the General Manager, performs work with considerable independence and initiative for the overall planning, organizing, and directing of all operational services for Waukesha Metro Transit. The Operations Supervisor must effectively direct the Transportation Department in accordance to applicable State and Federal regulations, policies of Professional Transit Management of Waukesha, Inc., and also adhere to policies and directives set forth by the City of Waukesha.

Job Duties/ Responsibilities:

1. Operations dispatching; scheduling assurance of operators; run cut and operator bidding procedures; shift arrangements for coverage; adherence to union contract; implementing management policies and procedures; daily report maintenance; oversee paratransit operations
2. Assuring vehicles maintenance; communications with maintenance staff
3. Customer service transactions, including Coach Lines tickets and parking permit sales; fixing issues with passes; assistance with monetary deposits.
4. Use of vehicle software and camera systems for monitoring and time checks of fixed route and paratransit services; keeping systems updated and maintaining knowledge of software; use technology to provide information and/or answer questions from operators, management, and public.
5. Safety procedures including route changes and detours implementation, making adjustments for bus operator error and unsafe conditions, accidents/ incidents investigation and proper documentation, customer complaints documenting and investigation, securing operations facilities, and implementing emergency procedures.
6. Training and staff management including development of training programs, supplying pertinent materials, assistance with operator discipline, investigate operator grievances, assistance with labor negotiations, assistance with interviewing process, and promote effective teamwork. Conduct refresher trainings and retraining as needed.
7. Involvement with company and/or civic interaction between departments and/or other agencies

Qualifications:

1. Comprehensive knowledge of supervisory practices necessary for operation of
Transit System.
2. Knowledge of mass transit operations.
3. Ability to effectively communicate complex subjects both orally and in writing.
4. Ability to supervise, organize, evaluate and plan the work of subordinate staff in a
Team environment.
5. Ability to think and react quickly in emergency situations.
6. Ability to make decisions in accordance with the established department rules and
Regulations without referral to a supervisor
7. Ability to quickly learn Waukesha city streets and Waukesha Metro Transit routes.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with other employees.
9. Ability to possess and teach Customer service skills.
10. Ability to maintain office records, complete complex data, and prepare accurate
records.
11. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
12. Must be able to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of two (2) years of experience in transportation and a minimum of one (1) year of transportation supervisory experience or two (2) years of unrelated supervisory experience; OR, minimum of two (2) years’ experience at Waukesha Metro Transit.

Must possess or obtain a valid BCD Commercial operator’s license with a “P” endorsement.

Pay: From $52,500.00 per year
