Professional Performance Development Group, Inc is Hiring a Licensed Vocational Nurse Near San Angelo, TX

Location: On-Site at Goodfellow Air Force Base, TX
Hours: M-F, 8-hour shift between the hours of 6:00AM and 4:30PM, not to exceed 40 hours per week
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university, or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Experience: One year of practical or vocational nurse experience after graduation.
  • Licensure: Current, valid, active, and unrestricted license (with no limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions) in a state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide a full range of outcome-based registered nurse services in accordance with privileges granted by the Military Treatment Facility (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and allergen systems; provide immunizations; and treat patients within scope of practice.
  • All registered nurses should be familiar with all HCW listed below to support all operations of immunization clinic, family medicine clinic, pediatrics clinic, active-duty clinic, student health clinic, deployment medicine clinic, case management, disease management, occupational health, special needs, and telephone triage.
  • Initiate, perform, and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.
  • Complete assigned patient care based on the patients’ conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report, and record relevant patient information.
  • Observe, identify, and respond to the patient’s needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education.
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures.
  • Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
  • Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing, and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient’s condition before, during, and following the procedure.
  • Orient peers and ancillary personnel to unit policies and procedures, skills, and standards of practice.
  • Integrate healthy work environment principles that result in improved patient healthcare delivery, education of patients and their families, and employee satisfaction.
  • Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.
  • Perform physical exam and health histories.
  • Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
  • Perform nursing services identified in the TO.
  • Participates in evidence-based practice and clinical support protocols.
  • Performs Telehealth Nursing/Telephone Triage (not considered telework or remote work)
  • Provides professional nursing care through the delivery, management, and coordination of care and services in a clinic setting through face-to-face encounters or via telecommunications technology (telehealth/virtual nursing)
  • Excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education and telephone triage of patients. Conducts immediate evaluation and management of emergency problems as they occur.
  • Follows evidence-based protocols using analytical thinking and critical nursing judgment to individualize instructions to meet each beneficiary’s needs and evaluates their understanding.
  • Within the scope of practice, develops and implements health promotion, illness/injury prevention, and therapeutic plans congruent with the client's diagnosis, health care problem, or need. Provides developmentally appropriate anticipatory guidance education, and counseling to patients and their families.
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues.
  • Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements. Ensures proper documentation and coding of procedures and treatments.
  • Provides team nursing coverage in the absence of other team nurses within the same clinic.
  • Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
  • Provides clinical oversight of all paraprofessionals involved in the provision of therapeutic treatments.
  • Performs/assists with procedures, such as urinary catheterizations, visual acuity tests, Electrocardiography (ECG/EKG), blood glucose monitoring, pulse oximetry, oxygen administration, nebulization therapy/treatments, phlebotomy, intramuscular/subcutaneous injections, irrigation of eyes and ears, intravenous fluid therapy, wound care, and other clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established protocols, etc.
  • Skilled in setting up, operating, and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic-specific equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
  • Serves and participates in committees, functions, and other meetings as directed. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups and assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participates in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
  • Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (IAW) unit guidelines.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
  • Encourages team building and enhances work knowledge by cross-training/augmenting other units as appropriate.
  • Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits, and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Obtains/maintains/documents professional Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) to comply with licensure and AF requirements, MTF initial and annual training requirements, and required unit-specific in-services/training.
  • Implements evidence-based findings into daily practice, processes, and policies.
  • Participates in/attends, but not limited to, mandatory organizational ancillary training programs; continuing educational programs to update and/or maintain the knowledge and skills needed to meet or enhance competency requirements; interdepartmental and unit-level in-services/briefings; continuing quality (i.e., Trusted Care, Team-STEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety), Participates in peer review activities.
