(Private - Food Industry) is Hiring a Warehouse Manager Near Pennsauken, NJ

Are you a master at leading your own warehouse distribution department and you desire to join a growing company with a reputable quality brand and work directly with the owners/executives?

.

Who we are.

We are a food distributor that started two decades ago with one truck. This past year we grew into a new warehouse building, we are now running several trucks, we implemented a new system for quality leadership and advancing business, and we have organized for even more growth in the coming years. The internal culture is positive and the primary two executives, who are also the owners, take pride in a well-developed team that enjoys their work. Externally, the company has a brand as the high customer service distributor with capabilities outpacing the competition for meeting the needs of the customer. Our customers, who we love, are generally small and passionate restaurants, pizzerias, sandwich shops, and more.

.

Who you are.

You are flexible, you own responsibility for your department (day and night), you teach and coach staff, you build a quality culture while having zero temper issues as you treat people with respect, you are demanding, you know how to build and implement new processes, you write and type (emails, evaluations, etc.), you are comfortable evaluating staff and respectfully holding them accountable, you communicate frequently with senior executives, you are mature, you can do the hands-on work while the team is smaller for now, you know and drive OSHA standards, you have deep knowledge in distribution warehouse operations, you are a master of efficiencies with warehouse product picking, you despise wasting time and standing around, you can’t turn off thinking of the customer as trucks are loaded by your team, you drive perfection in the picking and loading, you are loyal, you can flex to cover the night shift to assist your subordinate supervisor in taking time off, and you are hungry to work closely with owners/executives in advancing a company. Preferably, you know the food distribution industry, and if you do not, you are a master of leadership of warehouse and distribution and you will learn the food industry within a few short weeks while you bring fresh managerial ideas and lead process improvements.

.

What will you be doing?

To be clear, there is a near-term and long-term strategy for this role. The company is ready for exponential growth and the Executives will be assisting processes and staffing increases as sales increase in time, which will equate to less tactical work by the Warehouse Manager. For the near-term we are looking for the overall “Manager” who will also function in subordinate roles - Day Supervisor with 1-2 daytime staff including inventory management and minor picking. Additionally, the Manger will provide oversight of night operations that includes a Night Supervisor and 2-4 staff. This is a Monday-Friday role; however, the candidate will own 24hr responsibility of oversight to ensure the work is done with quality and trucks are ready to go. That means, if there is a staffing issue, you go fix it or fill in with staff at night. You will be “the Manager” and the Executives expect you to own and run the show, in accordance with the professionalism standards they desire. The Executives can support periodically and will also work with the Manager in finding growth solutions and staffing. However, the Warehouse Manager will own and be held accountable to ensuring staff are trained, held accountable, that quality culture is maintained (respectful and professional), and that the warehouse operations produce accurately prepared pallets on trucks in order meet the needs of our customers who demand low mispicks and no damaged goods. That quality is paramount for our company and is our differentiator from the competition. That is a heavy responsibility for the Manager and requires deep picking knowledge, tenured leadership, self-driven, loyalty, wisdom, energy, solid communications, and teamwork. If you do not have those traits and qualified experience in the aspects of a dynamic Warehouse Manager, please do not apply for this position.

It is emphasized, the candidate must possess the ability to respectfully and frequently communicate (written and verbal) up and down the chain of command - daily with executives and crews.

.

Be knowledgeable of our food products provided to customers.

Be knowledgeable of the types of customers we serve.

Be proficient in driving warehouse operations process improvements.

Be proficient in leading and working with warehouse workers/pickers.

---For executing work, provide clear and respectful direction to the warehouse worker/picker.

---Constantly coach and challenge staff to improve efficiencies, adopt improved processes, and improve the quality of picking and warehouse operations.

---Build teamwork among staff members and manage internal conflicts while demanding a professional and respectful environment.

---Recommend to senior leadership staff for rewards and recognition.

---For new staff, provide onboarding and training as per company processes for: forklift, minor truck movement, product placement, handling product, picking procedures, pallet procedures, communications, safety, cleanliness, and ensuring clarity of the role.

Be a proven leader in preventing “mispicks” within warehouse operations.

---This is a primary duty and critical function of the Night Shift Supervisor and for the overall Warehouse Manager (oversees day and night).

---Frequently provide quality assurance checks.

---Continuously train and coach staff to do their own quality assurance checks.

---Continuously improve processes for lowering mispicks rates.

In addition to Supervising staff and as needed, be able work alongside staff to not only complete the shift work, but to minimize staffing costs. As volume grows, this may be less of a requirement due to larger staff supervision.

Be a master in controlling company costs and making a profit (staff overtime, minimize errors, minimize downtime).

Be a master in warehouse equipment – proper use, safety, equipment inspections, requesting maintenance, and communicating equipment needs and issues.

Be a master in warehouse facilities – inspections, submitting maintenance requests, following through on maintenance, and keeping a high state of cleanliness and organized facilities.

Be a master of managing time off - ensuring staff proactively schedule time off while balancing staffing needs.

Be proficient in managing crew shift timeliness, ensuring staff are clocking in, out, and working as assigned.

Be a master warehouse inventory management, including daily counts, high accuracy rates, alerting purchasing staff of low inventory, and proactively communicating inventory issues.

Be proficient in assessing and processing the “shorts” while also performing as a mediator between shipping units and office/orders fulfillment to help resolve shipping issues in a timely fashion.

Be a master of daytime receiving of items from vendors and internal drivers, ensuring high degree of accuracy with PO, invoice sheets, adjustments, damage product reporting, and ensuring administrative reports are complete.

Be proficient in customer interaction for the small portion of in-person deliveries at the warehouse.

If you have no prior food experience, you must have the proven ability to learn over 1,000 products and the slotting and picking procedures for each item.
