Princeton University is Hiring an Associate Director IT Resiliency Near Princeton, NJ

Overview

The Associate Director, IT Resiliency reports to the Senior Director for Enterprise Infrastructure Services and works closely with the University’s Emergency Management Office to lead and implement campus-wide strategies to ensure the resilience, continuity, and recovery of OIT and departmental IT infrastructure and services. With colleagues across campus the Associate Director develops, oversees implementation, and reviews IT resiliency frameworks, and procedures to mitigate risks, and to maintain an appropriate level of service availability. The Associate Director delivers consultative information and recommendations to key stakeholders to help ensure University business continuity in the event of disruptions or disasters. Responsibilities include building the campus-wide governance and processes in a collaborative manner for IT disaster recovery preparedness. The Associate Director works closely with the Information Security Office, vendors, and IT leadership within OIT and across campus to design and document a risk-based IT disaster recovery and business continuity model, including recovery point and time objectives for all major IT services. The future risk-based program will deliver continuously improving IT readiness services to respond and recover from IT-related disruptions to research, teaching, and administration activities. 

The Associate Director has a critical IT services incident commander role during a disaster to coordinate response efforts. Working closely with campus partners and OIT senior leadership, the Associate Director ensures that OIT executes against its business continuity and disaster recovery plans. The Associate Director also participates in after incident reviews both internally within OIT and with campus partners.

The Associate Director may deliver presentations and workshops on topics related to business continuity and recovery to various campus departments and groups; the Associate Director will participate in professional IT organizations (e.g., Educause, Nercomp, Edge, Internet2) to meet peers and draw upon expertise outside of the University.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvements of IT resiliency methodologies, plans and processes for the University, working closely with the Information Security Office and University Emergency Management Group 
  • Builds and sustains a culture of shared responsibility to ensure end-to-end clarity and readiness of IT disaster recovery and business continuance plans for the University 
  • Works closely with the Information Security Office, staff in OIT, the University Emergency Management Group, and with key campus partners to ensure risk reviews are conducted to help identify gaps in critical IT systems core to continued operations in the event of a disruption or disaster 
  • Coordinates with the Information Security Office and OIT staff to facilitate tabletop exercises, and live tests as appropriate, of the plans and backup/redundant systems 
  • In partnership with OIT’s Contract and Vendor Management team, reviews and manages vendor contracts for any off-site or other resources required for business continuance and recovery; ensures vendors and service providers have IT resilience capabilities in line with the University’s needs. 
  • Facilitates documentation and training of disaster response and recovery processes and procedures, fostering a culture of resilience and awareness across the University 
  • Works closely with the Director of Communications to develop key communications and templates supporting disaster recovery awareness and planning activities for all IT teams 
  • Works closely with IT service owners and the Information Security Office leadership to develop service level recovery standards and agreements, including recovery point and recovery time objectives for services 
  • Works closely with IT services teams and IT monitoring experts to develop key performance indicators for disaster recovery and business continuance; provide regular reports to senior management to highlight the University's resiliency posture and areas for improvement 
  • Maintain significant familiarity and experience with IT infrastructure services and systems, including networking, virtualization, data centers, application development, databases, and cloud services 
  • Maintain expertise in emergency response operations and incident management, such as the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) 
  • Utilize ServiceNow to demonstrate disaster recovery and business continuance program compliance with ITIL guidelines 

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience supporting enterprise IT environments with increasing levels of responsibility, including at least 7 years in IT resiliency, designing and developing disaster response, recovery, and business continuance services 
  • Strong experience with assessing and implementing improvements to existing IT disaster plans requiring changes to existing processes 
  • Deep understanding of IT resiliency frameworks, methodologies, and industry standards (e.g., ISO 22301, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ITIL) 
  • Experience leading large, complex IT-related projects and in motivating cross-functional teams 
  • Aptitude for learning and sharing knowledge, including an interest in working with colleagues to solve challenging problems 
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and to cultivate relationships 
  • Demonstrated ability to respond promptly and professionally to customer requests 
  • Demonstrated successes working in a collaborative environment as well as independently 
  • Ability to learn new technologies beyond core area of knowledge 
  • Proactive approach to seeking information and ideas from peers, supervisors, and members of the Princeton community 
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities 
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and adapt effectively in high-pressure situations 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, business impact analysis, and gap analysis 
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP)
