Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is Hiring a Communications Intern Near Princeton, NJ

Overview

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is seeking a rising senior who is passionate about writing about science, science education, diversity, equity and inclusion, and other topics to support activities in PPPL’s Office of Communications.

In this position you will support PPPL’s communications team on internal and external communications regarding diversity, inclusion and accessibility communications, including working with Human Resources and employee resource groups, internal communications regarding onboarding, our science education staff, and our public tour program, which educates the public about PPPL’s mission and research activities.

We are currently seeking a rising senior pursuing a degree in journalism, communications or English who is able to commute to PPPL. The ideal candidate must be an adept researcher, demonstrate strong writing and editing skills, be able to multitask, and be familiar with social media.

The intern will work closely with a mentor and other members of the communications staff to learn how to communicate with the public through our tour program, diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility communications, feature writing, and social media The intern will increase their writing, research and reporting skills, will have the opportunity to network with communications professionals, other interns, and staff members, and will learn about potential career paths in communications and human resources at national laboratories such as PPPL.

Responsibilities

Core Duties: 

Under the guidance of Communications staff, the intern’s duties could include, but are not limited to: 

  • Writing brief articles about upcoming events for the internal website.
  • Researching and writing profiles with the guidance of Communications staff for the internal and external website.
  • Contributing to the internal newsletter.
  • Contributing to equity, diversity, and inclusion communications for the internal and external website and social media.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Senior pursuing a degree in journalism, communications or English.
  • Available to work from June to August.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • High level of initiative and motivation.
  • Technically savvy, with expertise in MicrosoftWord, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Drupal a plus.
  • Experience using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.
  • Ability to multi-task with minimal supervision.
