Princeton Friends School is Hiring a Mandarin Teacher Near Princeton, NJ

Reporting to the Head of School, the Mandarin Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and differentiated instruction for assigned students.

Specific Responsibilities:
In collaboration with colleagues, and under the supervision of the Head of School, the Mandarin Teacher’s responsibilities include:

  • Design, plan and teach developmentally appropriate curriculum for assigned subject areas
  • Develop lessons and instructional materials that support individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the learning needs of assigned students
  • Use a variety of instructional and assessment strategies
  • Provide learning opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, problem-solving, critical and creative thinking
  • Create and provide a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students learn cooperatively, and interact positively with one another
  • Model respectful interactions with students of diverse backgrounds while responding to their individualized needs
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers
  • Share samples of student work and communicate with parents regarding your class’s goals, major projects, and assessments on a regular basis
  • Provide feedback to students on assigned work in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate and useful records of individual student work and progress
  • Serve as an advisor or co-advisor
  • Establish and adhere to agreed-upon systems for holding students responsible for their work, and communicate with students’ advisors and parents when a need arises
  • Continue to develop professionally by reflecting on teaching practice and actively participating in professional development opportunities within the Quaker and/or independent school community
  • Assist in student arrival and/or departure as well as transitions between class periods
  • Support colleagues through collaborative planning, curriculum development and peer observation during meetings and/or designated professional learning time
  • Provide regular communication to students and parents on academic progress and needs including class assignments, homework, assessments, performance progress and behavior
  • Write reports to parents on students’ academic progress, social growth and learning needs at designated times of the year and meet with parents as necessary
  • Perform assigned non-instructional duties and participate in the life of the school community

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred
  • 3 years of experience in an educational setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational goals that align with the mission and core values of PFS
  • Interest in and a respect for Quaker education
  • A love of and a respect for children
  • Ability to interact well with people from a wide diversity of backgrounds and cultures
  • Must have a compassionate and positive attitude
  • Strategic thinker with a “can-do” style
  • Experience working with and motivating children and colleagues

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other school community members/volunteers
  • Knowledge of Google Classroom and G-Suite applications; comfort with technology, willingness to learn new systems
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Training in Responsive Classroom, a plus
  • Excellent time management skills; detail and goal oriented
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all the school’s constituents while maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Solid organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Highly resourceful and motivated – a “self-starter” with positive energy and a sense of humor
  • Exemplary work ethic

REASONING ABILITY:
The Mandarin Teacher/Advisor must use discernment in responding to various needs and requests from the students and the School’s stakeholders. Communication and decisions beyond the scope of this position must be referred to the Head of School.

The Mandarin Teacher/Advisor will be exposed to information of a confidential, proprietary or statutorily protected nature, including but not limited to student, faculty and parent information. The Teacher/Advisor must maintain the confidentiality and private nature of such information with the utmost good faith, especially as it pertains to student, family and other proprietary and protected information.
