We are seeking applicants who enjoy a fast-paced work environment, who prioritize safety and responsibilities and have excellent communication skills.The Department of Parks and Recreation has 8 aquatic facilities to include: 2 indoor pools, 4 community pools and 2 waterparks. We are currently hiring for all 8 DPR aquatic facilities for the upcoming summer season! Shifts will range from early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.No prior experience is required. Applicant MUST be at least 15 years old by 6/15/2024 and pass the swim test requirements for consideration as a Lifeguard: Ability to swim 100 yards (4 lengths of a pool) yards without stoppingRetrieve a 10 pound brick from the deepest end of the poolTread water for 1 minute without using arms or handsAside from successfully passing the swim test requirements and interview process, this position also requires all Lifeguards to complete the Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program which is included free of charge in your training as a Parks & Recreation Lifeguard. Training schedules will be provided upon hire.Starting Rate of Pay: $15.93Available Locations: - Splashdown Waterpark - 7500 Ben Lomond Park Rd. Manassas, VA 20109 The Department of Parks and Recreation conducts DMV records checks on all licensed employees and criminal background checks on all hires age 18 years and older.Note: The information that follows is a County-wide Classification Specification that may include details not specifically applicable to this position.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
NATURE OF WORKThis class is the part of the Recreation Job Family. Incumbents assist in carrying out program plans and activities and ensure the safety of all visitors and program participants. Responsibilities include: monitoring games, practices, and events to ensure compliance with code of conduct; preparing gym for program participants; performing life guard duties; and providing daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis is an entry-level position that is responsible for providing administrative support and ensuring visitor and participant safety within the facility. Work is performed in accordance with set procedures and guidelines, and deviation from those guidelines require approval.TYPICAL CLASS RESPONSIBILITIES1. Monitors the use of equipment and facilities, monitors games, practices, and events to ensure compliance with applicable safety policies and practices.2. Carrying out program plans, activities, and lessons.3. Maintains and prepares equipment and facility for ongoing sporting events; performs reception and concession duties during sporting events; and maintains related records.4. Enforces pool rules; provides emergency care and treatment as required.5. Maintains required logs and prepares related reports.6. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS8th grade education and 0-12 months of related experience.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSMust be at least 15 years old; Lifeguard Certification, First Aid Certification and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification required depending on position. May require Federal or State background check.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSPositions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
