Production Department Lead

JOB SUMMARY

Leads and trains department personnel and assigns daily work. Enforces all policies and standards. Must be able to perform the following duties below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees production operations within assigned departments on a daily basis to ensure equipment is making rate and set ups are done in allotted time.
•  Responsible for daily work assignments for department personnel.
• Troubleshoots all production issues. Collaborates with engineering to solve problems or improve processes.
• Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
• Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency in the shop, department or personnel.
• Creates and supports a culture of collaboration. Mediates conflicts that arise.
• Understands and observes all necessary safety procedures: safety glasses, shoes, ear protection, machine interlocks, lifting guidelines, etc. as designated in specific work area assigned.
• Oversees department production and personnel as needed.
• Maintains good housekeeping and safe work conditions in assigned departments.
• Performs a variety of complicated tasks by using sound judgment with little or no daily supervision.
• Reports machine, tooling or material shortages and concerns to General Manager.
• Directs workers in adjusting machines and equipment.
• Keeps General Manager informed of all department issues or concerns related to production, performance or any issue that could negatively affect the company's operation.
• Performs small quality audits with operators.
• Understands and follows Prince Industries quality certifications (i.e. ISO, QS) as relates to position.
• Responsible for maintaining the quality, protection and storage of the completed product (ex: layer packing, rust preventative oils, box weight, etc.)
• Establishes, verifies and maintains the production rate as indicated on the Job Traveler and reports
• Positions and secures workpiece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures.
• Works effectively with all department personnel and co-workers in a harmonious and cooperative manner to meet the needs and goals established by the company.

REQUIRED SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES

• Excellent attention to detail and well organized.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Basic computer skills to perform job/part inquiry, data collection or input.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
• High proficiency in blueprint reading including GD&T and inspection techniques.
• Independent and willing to take initiative.
• Strong work ethic and highly motivated.
• Mechanically inclined.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• 5 or more years of experience in precision machining.
• Strong leadership and management skills, with a minimum of 3 years of experience.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Regularly required to stand, and reach the duration of shift, 8-10 hours.
• Occasionally required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
• Frequently required to perform repetitive or short-cycles work.
• Regularly lift, push, or pull up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles resulting from metalworking coolants/oils.
