Department Description
Under the direction of the Student Services Business Operations Coordinator, the Mental Health Coordinator will be responsible for managing mental health services and professional development within the school system and collaborating with the local agencies that provide mental health services. The incumbent will lead the development and revision of the behavior threat assessment procedures and training, and the Prince George's County Public School's Behavior Threat Assessment Oversight Team to maintain the safety of students and staff.

This is an ASASP Unit III Table 900 position Grade 30
Salary Range: $79,263 - $159,531
Closing Date: May 17, 2024
This position is contingent on the approval of the FY25 budget.
Detailed Description
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Provides oversight of existing mental health services provided by the mental health clinicians including referral, data collection, evaluation, and integration procedures;
  • Leads the Prince George's County Public School's Behavior Threat Assessment Oversight Team;
  • Develops and monitors the implementation of state and federal grants to support the mental health services for students;
  • Leads the development, revision, and consultation regarding behavior threat assessment, crisis response, suicide intervention, non-suicidal self-injury, and telehealth procedures;
  • Develops and provides professional development for school-based and district-level staff and parents on mental health and wellness topics;
  • Develops and engages in partnerships with the Prince George's County Department of Health, national organizations and local mental health agencies to promote mental health initiatives;
  • Develops presentations and modifies websites related to mental health and wellness;
  • Participates and attends national, state and county meetings to address the mental health needs of students and families in Prince George's County;
  • Develops, reviews and monitors all required state reporting requirements to ensure the school system's compliance; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Job Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
  • Knowledge of Prince George's County Public Schools and the local, state and national mental health agencies and organizations providing services to youth and families;
  • Knowledge of Prince George's County Public Schools procedures, especially crisis response, suicide intervention and behavior threat assessment;
  • Knowledge of state laws pertaining to suicide intervention and behavior threat assessment;
  • Skills in working with students experiencing significant social, emotional and behavioral issues;
  • Excellent human relations, problem solving, as well as oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to use computer technology in an administrative and educational setting to manage meetings and all aspects of work assignments; and
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and to function effectively in multiple environments.
    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, school psychology or a related field required. A minimum of three (3) years of experience providing mental health support in schools. Experience in leading/participating in crisis response teams required; experience delivering workshops in the areas of suicide prevention, behavior threat assessment and trauma awareness preferred. Experience writing state and federal grants preferred.
    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or similar licensure/certification preferred.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
