Department Description

Under the direction of the Associate Superintendents, the Principal Leadership Coach will mentor novice school Principals in need of instructional leadership development and support. The incumbent of this position will facilitate leadership development focused on enhancing the skills of school leaders to ensure individual and student/school success.

This is an ASASP Unit II Table F Grade 6 Position

Salary Range: $118,206 - $184,869

Detailed Description


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Provides ongoing one-on-one standards-based leadership coaching;
  • Conducts school visits to observe school leaders and assesses their progress against standards, performance objectives, and observations using personalized mentoring and coaching skills;
  • Facilitates leadership development sessions and other customized supports;
  • Provides school leaders with non-evaluative coaching and specific feedback on job performance;
  • Provides support and guidance on problem-solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills to school leaders;
  • Recommends strategies to ensure that school leaders are able to build a culture of excellence that fosters academic achievement by meeting adequate yearly progress for all students in their schools;
  • Promotes instructional leadership through alignment, coordination and delivery of professional development programs in the Office of Professional Learning & Leadership and/or additional offices to support and promoteidentified systemic initiatives;
  • Promotes excellence and continuous improvement consistent with school division goals;
  • Develops clear action steps to accelerate school transformation and student achievement;
  • Develops and implement strategies that target critical leadership behaviors in an effort to lead school improvement effectively;
  • Attends systemic meetings which include but are not limited to: New Principal Meetings, Systemic Principal & Assistant Principal Meetings, APIP I & II, ALPSS and others;
  • Enforces the PGCPS leadership standards that are recognized as the performance guideline for principal practice, student and adult learning, diverse communities, 21st century learning, continuous improvement, using knowledge and data, and parent, family, and community engagement;
  • Attends systemic meetings and other professional development functions that mentees attend;
  • Works with the Office of Professional Learning and Leadership and other stakeholders in developing succession programming; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop the leadership skills of others;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in school administration, curriculum, and/or instruction, current instructional practices and trends, and use of materials and equipment to facilitate instruction;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with development of data driven instruction at the school/district level with documented results;
  • Proven track record of school improvement success as evidenced by student achievement data;
  • Evidence of sound problem solving skills related to schools/districts;
  • Experience in advising and the development and implementation of leadership programs at the district, university or private sector level;
  • Demonstrated competency in developing and leading professional development sessions for school leaders and instructional staff;
  • Demonstrated computer/educational technology skills (including proficiency in Oracle, Microsoft Office Suite, Project Management Planning);
  • Excellent organizational and human relations skills; and
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree required from an accredited college or university in Supervision and Administration or Curriculum and Instruction. A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a Principal is required.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator II endorsement required; Framework for Teaching Certification preferred; National Board Principal Certification or comparable leadership supervisory certification preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees and provides guidance to assigned personnel.

Highly demanding and fast-paced; frequently required to work long hours, nights and weekends; annual leave may be limited during specified timeframes.
