Job Description:Prime Roots is seeking a Contract Product & Sensory Testing Associate to join our dynamic team.
  • As a Contract Product & Sensory Testing Associate, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and sensory attributes of our plant-based food products meet our high standards and testing against other products.
  • This position involves conducting sensory evaluations, organizing and executing product tests, analyzing data, and creating data visualizations and presentations for sales and marketing purposes.
  • Additionally, you will oversee panel recruitment and testing setup to support the testing process.
Key Responsibilities:
Sensory Evaluation:
  • Set up and conduct sensory evaluations of food products, following established protocols.
  • Train panelists and participants in sensory testing procedures.
  • Maintain sensory evaluation records and ensure data accuracy.
Product Testing:
  • Design experimental protocols for product testing based on defined objectives.
  • Prepare samples for sensory and analytical tests.
  • Execute testing plans, ensuring consistency and reliability in testing processes.
  • Document and report test results to the relevant teams.
Data Analysis:
  • Analyze sensory and analytical data to identify trends, patterns, and potential areas for product improvement.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve product quality and sensory attributes.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement changes based on data analysis.
Quality Control:
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining the quality control program for food products.
  • Identify and report any deviations from product specifications and recommend corrective actions.
Panel Recruitment and Setup:
  • Source, screen, and recruit sensory panelists or participants for testing.
  • Plan and set up sensory testing sessions, ensuring that all necessary materials, samples, and equipment are available.
  • Arrange and manage the logistics of testing sessions, including space reservation and equipment calibration.
  • Collaborate with the Procurement team to ensure a steady supply of necessary testing materials.
Data Management and Visualization:
  • Create data visualizations and graphs to effectively communicate sensory and product testing results.
  • Compile data into clear and visually appealing presentations for data visualization and presentation purposes.
  • Training and Onboarding:
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for panelists, covering sensory testing protocols and best practices.
  • Onboard new panelists, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
Data Collection Oversight:
  • Supervise the data collection process during sensory evaluations, ensuring that all panelists follow established procedures.
  • Troubleshoot any issues or inconsistencies that may arise during testing sessions.
Data Visualization and Presentation:
  • Create presentations that effectively communicate product attributes and sensory insights for sales and marketing teams.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to meet their data visualization and presentation needs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Sensory Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in sensory testing, product evaluation, or quality control within the food industry is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Be extremely self driven and resourceful, able to complete tasks and projects and manage one's time effectively and efficiently. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey findings and recommendations.
This is a contract position with a duration of 1-4 months with compensation of between $30-50/hr depending on experience. The Contract Product & Sensory Testing Associate will be an integral part of Prime Roots' mission to create sustainable and delicious plant-based food products.
