Role Summary

The Operations Leader plans and oversees the store’s day-to-day operational processes while identifying opportunities for improvement. The Operations Leader collaborates with and supports all functions of the company including sales, purchasing, HR and finance with a focus on team development and training to set employees up for growth and success.Creates a positive and team-focused environment to deliver a consistent customer experience while driving growth and profitability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Operational Leadership

  • Maintains responsibility for the overall operation of the Preston Feather location, which includes direct or indirect management of logistics, operations and inside sales teams. Serves as a liaison between operations and outside sales at the branch level.
  • Oversees inventory transactions including cycle counting, receiving, culling, and invoicing. Retains management of open orders and returns, resales, and direct ship coordination.
  • In alignment with all company locations, maintains responsibility for safety procedures implementation and execution and promotes/requires a culture of safe operation.
  • Reviews and analyzes data relating to operational metrics to support revenue targets and operational efficiency leveraging cross-functional and cross-branch collaboration whenever possible to do so.
  • Provides vendor performance feedback to Supply Chain Leader as it relates to product quality, safety, on time deliveries, etc.
  • Maintains responsibility for facilities and equipment management including display / showroom layouts, physical storage solutions, material handling equipment, sales and delivery fleet, building maintenance, snow removal and lawn care.
  • Contributes to or participates in setting long-term strategic goals. Plans and leads projects, assigns resources and ensures successful completion.

Team Development

  • Together with Human Resources, identifies staff needs and assists with the selection, onboarding, and training program for each team member addition. As an ongoing practice, maintains an ongoing performance management environment rich with periodic 1:1 conversations, objective setting, feedback, and recognition. Works with each team member to build a personalized career path.
  • Collaborate with purchasing team to schedule onsite, vendor-led product training events. Identifies opportunities for product installation or knowledge training and shares feedback with purchasing team.

Customer Experience

  • Supports the finance team with customer payments, resolving payables discrepancies, etc.
  • Supports an exceptional customer experience with an emphasis on continuous process improvement by addressing and resolving customer service issues, planning and executing customer events, capitalizing on sponsorship opportunities and community engagement occasions.

Financial Responsibility

  • Creates an annual budget and exercises budgetary controls specifically as it relates to special projects and investments, fleet maintenance, and facility maintenance. Collaborates with sales and supply chain teams to influence sales and supply chain budgets.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • minimum of 3 years experience working in a retail environment, ideally within the building trades industry in a managerial role.
  • degree in business administration or relevant field preferred.
  • leadership and customer service management abilities.
  • skills with MS Teams, Office 365, ERP systems such as Spruce or equivalent
