Job Summary:

This position is responsible for planning, developing and providing a quality Activity/Socialization Program designed to assist memory care residents in using their personal potential both physically and mentally.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Must have excellent communication skills; written and verbal: to be able to read aloud, speak in front of groups and formulate ideas on paper.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Must possess the following mental abilities: alertness, judgment, initiative, mathematical ability, creativity and imagination.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to work irregular hours, occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Must possess leadership/supervisory skills.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develops and maintains an activities program which is reflective of the residents’ interests. Leads activity groups including exercise classes.
  • Communicates and coordinates activity programming with all departments.
  • Supervises the activities programming provided by all personnel.
  • Develops and updates policies and procedures related to the activities program.
  • Responsible for meeting any applicable regulatory requirements as they relate to activities.
  • Must order and maintain supplies needed for activities.
  • Assists other departments with special events and family functions.
  • Ability to learn and assist in other areas of the building.
  • Must report observed resident changes to the RN.
  • Completes required documentation.
  • Offers suggestions and ideas for improvement.
  • Responds appropriately to safety hazards, fire drills and other emergency situations.
  • Reports injuries to self, residents or visitors immediately to the supervisor.
  • Maintains at all times privacy and confidentiality of resident, residents’ records and residents’ living environment.
  • Understands and adheres to the Vulnerable Adult and Abuse prevention policy. Is familiar with the home care Bill of Rights and adheres to it.
  • Appropriately communicates with resident and/or resident’s family.
  • Assists with the transportation of residents to and from local appointments/and/or doctor’s appointments if assigned.
  • Works as a team member with other personnel, RN, housing manager and the community.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills.
  • Assists residents in developing interpersonal relationships in socializing effectively and in developing the confidence needed to participate in group activities.
  • Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.
  • Promotes residents’ independence, not dependence, by offering choices and fostering self-help skills.
  • Must be punctual, with satisfactory attendance record. Provide proper notice of tardiness or absence.
  • Must have knowledge of crafts and games; record keeping procedures, activity procedures and knowledge of the community.

Education and Experience:

High school education. Some experience preferred.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level is usually moderate to minimal.
  • Inside work while assisting residents.
  • Minimal exposure to blood borne pathogens, Infectious diseases.
  • Exposure to chemicals and cleaning products.

Certifications, License, Registrations and Other Requirements:

  • Must receive a “not disqualified” criminal background result from Department of Human Services.
  • Must be free from TB based on appropriate screening.
