Qualifications

The Director of Education must meet or exceed state licensing requirements for a position that is permitted to be in charge of a childcare facility at opening or closing. Additionally, a bachelor’s degree in the field of Early Childhood Education, as well as five years of experience managing an early childhood education setting is required.

Job Summary

The Director of Education supports all educational programs delivered on the school campus. The Director of Education oversees the social, emotional, and academic development of our students. They are primarily responsible ensuring successful implementation of the curriculum.The Director of Education implements the Préscolaire’s Center of Excellence for Professional Development training plan with new employees, delivers on-going training for staff, and provides any other training or support needed. Furthermore, the Director of Education supports the operation and management of the campus in the following capacities: customer relations, touring, and enrolling families. The Director of Education promotes a positive image of the company within the community and establishes strong working relationships with families, staff members, and state licensing authorities.

Job Responsibilities and Standards of Performance

Retention

  • Actively develops and maintains positive relationships to retain enrolled families
  • Actively develops and maintains positive relationships to retain staff members

Educational Programs

  • Ensures implementation and organization of a developmentally appropriate program and curriculum in each classroom, at all times.
  • Plans and prepares all items for curriculum implementation for all classrooms.
  • Encourages and provides coaching to ensure high quality teacher-child interactions.
  • Reviews classroom lesson plans and postings.
  • Ensures classroom lesson planning is completed within designated timelines.
  • Reviews classroom arrangement and provides guidance to the campus staff to ensure proper classroom arrangement regularly.
  • Regularly audits student portfolios to ensures observations have been conducted and assessment data has been gathered and properly documented in assessment software for each child.
  • Plans and directs all Parent Conferences to communicate academic progress.
  • Ensures evidence of learning displays are professional, neat, and reflects the curriculum.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Manages the campus in compliance with state and local regulations and with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that proper child-staff ratios are maintained.
  • Implements company and state health and safety standards: ensures that appropriate supervision of children practices are utilized daily.
  • Understands and implements emergency procedures in case of emergency situations. When, necessary, can administer CPR/First Aid, including lifting and carrying injured children.
  • Responsible for the daily and monthly playground inspections and provides appropriate documentation of the inspection on the approved forms.
  • Trains staff in all campus safety policies and procedures. Ensures that all staff members understand their roles in protecting the health and safety of the enrolled children.
  • Requires staff to enforce all safety policies and procedures in compliance with all regulatory agency requirements.
  • Implements all standards necessary to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment, including universal precautions.

Regularly visits all classrooms to spot check for cleanliness and appropriate naptime cleaning.

Maintains a clean, safe, healthy campus environment through scheduled cleaning and frequent visual checks.

  • Participates in emergency drills in accordance with company and licensing requirements.
  • Maintains building, equipment, and grounds to ensure a safe environment that meets company and licensing safety standards.
  • Understands and implements policies related to the exclusion of an ill or infected staff member or child enrolled in the program.

Training & Professional Development

  • Participates in all staff training sessions, meetings, and programs as requested by the Executive Director and sponsored by the school. Willing to lead session if requested to do so by the Executive Director.
  • Supervises teachers to ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of each child in the classroom. Mentors teachers in the required skills and expertise needed to ensure an appropriate classroom environment.
  • Responsible for staff orientation, training, and mentoring. Follows and implements Center of Excellence for Professional Development training guidelines with every new employee.
  • Ensures that each staff member receives and understands his/her job description, policies and procedures, and orientation materials.
  • Maintains staff training records for all staff, as required by state licensing regulations and company policies.
  • Coaches and counsels staff when the Executive Director is out of the building.

Customer Relations

  • Develops and actively maintains positive communications with families and staff.
  • Recognizes parent concerns, evaluates course of action, and responds appropriately to the needs of families. Communicates all family concerns to the Executive Director.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding children and families.
  • Maintains effective communications with families.
  • Conducts parent meetings and other conferences as appropriate.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Childcare demands physical fitness and mental acuity as staff care for children who cannot care for themselves. The Director of Education:
  • Must be able to react quickly with sound judgment and problem-solving skills in complex and critical situations, such as injuries and accidents.
  • Must use excellent verbal and written communication skills with parents, children, and staff.
  • Must be capable of lifting, carrying, and holding children weighing up to 60 pounds, up to 100 times daily.

General

  • Effectively resolves problems related to the management of the campus. Seeks assistance from the Executive Director and/or Regional Manager when appropriate.
  • Completes all required paperwork and record keeping on a timely basis and maintains same in an organized, up-to-date manner.
  • Evaluates staff performance.
  • Keeps Executive Director apprised in a timely manner of all critical areas of responsibility, including serious student accidents, employee issues and significant events. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with all state licensing authorities, approved vendors, and community contacts.
  • Represents the interests of the company in the community.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knows and implements ADA special-needs inclusion policy.
  • Prepares and forwards reports and forms required by the company.
