Prescient Technologies is seeking highly skilled, knowledgeable, and self-motivated Sign Language Interpreters to support a government contract. Our ideal candidates will be dedicated to achieving and maintaining a high level of professionalism while remaining as unobtrusive as possible.

The interpreter shall provide Sign Language Interpreting Services from American Sign Language (ASL) to English and English to ASL.

Interpretation may be needed for various town departments including, but not limited to public safety, parks and recreation, human resources, and town management.

Interpreter services may range from simple to complex and be sensitive in nature.

• Strong listening, research, memory, and sign language skills.
• The ability to sign in many situations, including meetings, small groups, large groups, and one-on-one settings.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
• The ability to perform in a challenging, creative, and formal working environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of American Sign Language and Deaf Culture.
• Must be able to work within a changing schedule as the need arises.
• Must have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, able to interact with members from various backgrounds.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• A minimum of five (5) years working as an interpreter must be reflected in your resume.
• Professional certification from a recognized institution such as the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and/or National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and/or State Certification.
• Holds a screening level of at least 80% accuracy rating from the Virginia Department of Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
• Must be able to interpret/transliterate fluently and understand the continuum of sign communication.
• Must be able to proficiently voice to sign as well as sign to voice.
• Must possess exceptional communication skills, both orally and written.
